if you are a very over weight person, don't bother about these as you will get just a good results from actually just eating healthy and taking regular exercise.

Post up your diet and we will see if there would be a better way of losing weight by altering your diet rather tehn having to take slimming pills

With a lot of miracle slimming pills their "active ingredient" can be seen in the instructions.

"best taken on an empty stomach". If you follow that advice, smarties can work as slimming pills.

I've always wondered if the rest of the ingredients are "inactive". If so, why not get rid of them and just include more of the active ingredients!

Anthony_1980 - I'd advise against fat-burning pills, especially since a combination of regular exercise (strength training and cardio) and nutrition will help you 99% of the way.

The active ingredients are the ones that actually do the work i.e. aspirin in a tablet. The inactive ingredients don't do anything for you specifically but they do make it easier to take the medication. Pharmaceutically inert or inactive ingredients are the substances used to put the medication into pill or tablet form, and they dilute the strength of the active ingredients as well, making it easier to measure dosage.

It also makes it tasty, like sugar in Calpol. Yum.

It was actually a joke on my part. I'm actually quite cynical when it comes to fat-burning tablets.

Based on the experience of others who have used them (PT clients who tried them before they worked with me), the "active ingredient" was anything but active and nothing happened!,:D

If your first port of call on a new diet/fitness regime is fat burners, I'd be worried.

I kinda figured but I just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who wanted to know!

I actually never replied to the OP, I just thought i'd mention that two people (female) I know were on Fat Strippers and/or Thermoslimmers for a while (both from LA Muscle). As far as I remember, they did lose weight, but mostly from changes in eating habits and exercise, not the pills themselves. That and the excessive diahorrea that sometimes comes with these tablets.

Exactly, get your diet 100% and stick to a committed training plan. Don’t waste your money on supps full of caffeine. This goes also for whey and creatine etc. when you’re a good 6+ months into a training regime then thing about supps.

Sorry for going off topic and generalizing but there in no miracle pill our powder for quick weight loss and or muscle gains (no healthy ones anyway). Work your ass off till your reached a plateau then look at supps etc.

Workout till you addicted to working out, nothing like the feel good factor of a workout and starting feel\see the results.

I have to disagree with you there, yes getting your diet right is important but supplements in particular whey are a convenient source of increasing your protein intake.

Its better if you do it with whole foods but there is nothing wrong with supplementing your diet esp with stuff like whey.

On the fat burning pills, yeah alot of them are a waste of money. get your diet and training sorted first and see how you get on. If things are not going the way you want them too then look at supplementing or changing around your training. There is no minimum time to wait though, so if after 4/5 weeks you arent losing weight then something is off in your training or diet IMO.

No question about it some supps are good like whey and form an important part of certain athletes programs, but the aren't needed straight away when someone is starting out on a fitness\weight training program.

If some one is over weight and are on a committed diet, training for 4/5
weeks and they are not seeing results they need to re-examine their diet \ training and not take diet pills.

If someone over weight takes diet pills for 4 weeks or what ever length the course is as soon as the stop the weight will be right back on.

Years of putting on weight is not going to come off over night and stay off, I’m much more in favour of lifestyle changes.

    Cheers

My bad, sorry i should of been clearer, i dont consider the standard diet pills as supplements. hence when i refered to supplement i meant stuff like whey. My point was that if your not getting results your diet may need tweaking and that irregardless of how long you have been training supplements can be valuable addition.

the reason i ask about these is a sales rep came into my office today and i havnt seen him since xmas and he lost 6 stone on these and toned up and in fairness he looks great , he was 20 stone and now just under 13 looks happier , healthier and he said he was a junk food addict and wasnt happy about losing weight slowly although he knew it was correct to lose slowly but he got lazy and diss-heartened , but now he says since he lost all that weight he weights himself once a week to keep an eye on his weight and has re learnt values of food and doesnt abuse his body like he used too

i know there loads of haters on here as everybody seems to be mr motivator etc

but surely it hasnt been a bad thing , he trains 4 days a week and looks v toned , i'll try see if he will give me the before and after pics

Now Anthony_1980, use your brain. Which do you think made him nice and toned and lean:

learning about food and not eating crap while training 4 days a week

    or

    taking diet pills.

he only started the gym and watching his foods after he lost the weight

he said he went twice a week and diet went out window at weekends

its pretty much like im doing now and im not shifting anything

so maybe they aint so bad after all and can act as a springboard , he's stopped taking them since end of april and hasnt put on any weight

he said he's maintained weight and feels great

just want to know why theres so many negative people who always say this crap and this is crap etc

it worked for him why not others

im sure it has worked for him and in fact i am considering using some caffeine tablets for 2/3 weeks to get rid of the last .5st i want to move BUT they are not a good place to start.

the reason it appears that there are so many negative people here(from my viewing of the situation) is that people who dont know what they are talking about(not talking about you in particular at all) but have done a bit of research post here asking questions and then when the people who do know what they are talking about tell them its not the best way to do it they dont like it, which gets the people in the knows backs up even more.

for the record i am not someone in the know but this is what i have observed.

it sounds like they were perfect for your friend and they might be perfect for you but more than likely they will work then when you stop using them you will put the weight back on as you will have grown complacent with your diet and workout as the pills have been doing the work.

    but thats the whole idea

thats how i got fat by being complacent n first place

ive 5 stone to shift and although a 1/2 lbs a week wll take ages and u get diss heartened

i dont mean to piss anybody off ok

i had 2 stone to lose and the first stone and a half came off pretty much at 2.5lbs a week with a strict diet and a bit of excersise

iv let up on the diet a bit which has slowed down the losing weight(if not stopped it) but im almost at a happy medium and i know my training will be upped big time in september so the last bit should fly of then.

im sure anyone will be able to tell you that there is no quick fix for the majority of people short of gastric bypass and speaking from experience excersise very quickly turns into a hobby that you want to get better at rather than something you have to do to get x results

My issues with quick fix weight loss products are:
    1. It takes a long time to get to the point where you are (in your case) 5 stone overweight. its not reversible overnight. Along the slow weight loss path you learn alot about how you ended up that why and you develop new better habits that will help you maintain that weight.
    2. Slow and steady weight loss is less stress on your body
    3. Cals in <cals out for weight loss. basic law of thermodynamics so i dont believe they really work. If you friend was over eating at the weekend chances are he was under eating during the week. Cycling cals and carbs can work if done properly but starving and then binging encourages your body to hoard its fat deposits for the next famine
    4. dieting is an industry, its in their interest for people to regain the weight to try there new improved product. they are not making these products for the good of their health
    5. They are a symbol of how our society is going, i want what i want now with no work

Okay so rant over, just my 2c

Look at the name of the forum. It's "Fitness" , not "Quick ways to lose weight because i am lazy".

There is nothing fit or healthy about what your friend did. Has he been to the doctor before and after for full check ups to see about possible effects on organ health per chance?

Or maybe, just maybe, your friend is full of ****, but it's just not cool to have to put effort into losing weight.
