I've heard Luke Ivorys re-opening Merrion Square on Friday August 10th.
Anyone got confirmation of this and
details of whether there'll be a tournament or ring games played?

I looked up wikipedia and it says "Cool Hand Luke obtained his nickname after winning a five-card stud pot on a stone-cold bluff" but the film is a Prison one, or am I missing a great film?? I presume there's more then one scene about our beautiful game?

Also don't be suprised if I come back in the morning and nuke all the off topic posts!! One too many bottle of wines makes Ste05 a bad mod... :D

This is the first casino Luke has opened so I dont know where the membership card would have come from, its not the same casino its just the same building.

Cool Hand Luke (1967) is the moving character study of a non-conformist, anti-hero loner who bullheadedly resists authority and the Establishment.

    Mick,
How many dealers and other people is he taking from the Fitz?

I know of three so far.

Edit - Obviously I'm only asking about the ones who are making it common knowledge.

You are missing a fantastic film. Paul Newman's character "Luke" is possibly the coolest man on the planet, and here is well supported by George Kennedy. It's one of those films that is constantly referenced by TV shows, other films and even cartoons. You will be surprised how much of it seems familiar (e.g the scene where Newman attempts to eat 50 eggs, the warden's speech "What we've got here is..failure to communicate" , the prison guard with the mirror shades and much more.)

The title refers to a scene where a bluff is made and Kennedy shouts "He beat you with nuthin!", to which Newman replies "Yeah, well...sometimes nuthin' is a real cool hand".

Watch this film. I guarentee you will start demanding that anyone who wants to remain on speaking terms with you must watch it too.

I'm delighted to announce that Luke's new cardrooms will be opening on Friday 17th August with a 75 euro game with one rebuy.

if you are early you may get a glass of wine and a vol au vent and even your picture taken for the board downstairs.

exciting news and I'm honoured to share it.

Don't mean to be smart mick, but how is it a charity event as well - like does the reg fee go to the charity - or how does it work?

I'm glad Luke is back in the game soon, but any tourney details feel free to post them in the sub forum. I hope to be there that night btw.
