Nintendo Cracked Hinge

Bought one from Game at the end of may for my daughter and she has treated it very well but she showed it to me this morning and the right hinge is indeed cracked, the issue with this that the top part is now loose so you can't angle it the way you want, I read on this US site that a good few people are getting cracked hinges and it looks like Nintendo US are replacing them FOC.
    Anyone else got this issue???

I've replaced a few in GAME. I'm pretty sure Nintendo have told use to take them in, so bring it back to the GAME where you bought it.

    Hi Zapp,

thanks for that but just checking the receipt it was actually in Smyths that I bought the pink one (bought a white one in game, got mixed up !!)
Also I remember that when I bought the machine in Smyths the guy went to great pains to tell me that they would look after any issue within the first 14 days after that I would have to deal with Nintendo directly, so not sure if I'm going to get grief from them when I bring it back into them. Might give Nintendo a call tomorrow and see what they have to say.

Ah ok, best of luck with it! It shouldn't be a hassle to get a new one though.

Well seems like Nintendo UK will do a replacement as long as you have the receipt. But I think I will bring it back to Smyths to see if they will issue me a replacement first.

I remember when I got my Gamecube all those years ago, a fault appeared in it and wouldn't play games. I brought it back to Smyths and they gave me a new one without any hassle.
Therefore, I'd say they'll give you a new one no problem.

Well went into Smyths today and they won't swap it out but they will send it back to Nintendo for me, now I don't know if I'd prefer to send it directly to Nintendo myself rather then trying to get info out of Smyths on it, anyone any experience of this? Would I be better off sending it back myself?

    Thanks

Well just got off the phone with Nintendo and got an RMA number so will send it back to them Directly, rather then messing with Smyths. The guy I talked to said that they would send me out one from a new production batch that shouldn't suffer from the issue, but we shall see.

When my DS Lite was having issues with diagonal directions on the d-pad, I called Nintendo. They sent me a replacement immediately and it came with instructions about packing my original unit in the same shipment box and sending back to them. They paid shipping both ways and I wasn't without a DS for one second.

Any time I've ever dealt with Nintendo support, I've had wonderful service. They're probably the best company I've ever worked with in terms of after-sales service.

Well seems they are not doing that type of service anymore, they want me to send it back to them at my own expense and then it will take 2 to 3 weeks to return. Also the guy I talked to while helpful said something along the lines of that Nintendo were being extra leeniant on the cracked hinge at the moment, i.e. u might have damaged it yourself! He also said it was rare in Pink versions of it which is shiite as I've read on other forums that it happens across all versions of the lite. I told him it was in perfect condition and had no knocks. He then said "I'm not calling you a lier", but I get the impression they've been told to play hardball with people calling in on this issue. Maybe I'll take photos of the console before I return it just in case they try to be difficult about it.
