help with my dvd player

    i got a black sony dvd player in drogheda at christmas. the model is a dvp-ns36. it has divx playback but i am not sure if it has xvid. i tried an xvid format and it was unable to read it. i thought all divx dvd players could play xvid. can someone help and say what the problem is??

    it can do DivX but not Xvid.
    Strange - I also thought if they can play one they can play the other.

    XviD and DivX are to a degree the same both being implementations of the MPEG-4 ASP standard.

    That particular Sony player will only playback XviD if the FourCC is changed to DX50

    You can use this piece of software to make the changes to XviD AVI's.

    (DivX compare a french site holds all the info on various players)

    ye i thought xvid was a different kind of divx. was wrong. thanks for that site with the convertor. i just want to know would i be able to change svcd to xvid on a portable dvd player??

    SVCD (Super Video CD) and XviD are entirely different formats.

    To convert an SVCD into XviD you will need to re-encode the video into XviD.
