    Hi

Sorry for opening a new post regarding this common issue. The weather is terrible which led me writing a post....

I'll be 19 next month with a provisional A license for a motor bike. This will be my first time getting insured. I will be ringing the insurance companies on Tuesday to gets some quotes etc from Carol Nash & Aon.

Do Quinn direct offer Bike insurance?
    --

Would a 19 year old with a provisional A license be capable of getting insured on a Honda CBR125. Would it have to be restricted or anything?

    Brand new one costs CBR125r
    Price: € 3599
    (incl. 21% VAT & VRT)

    - Is there anyone out there who were in my position who could please offer advice?

    - Would anyone have a rough estimate of the insurance price, i reckon around 2k?

    - Is the CBR125r the one that sounds similar to a lawnmower or is that those Asprilla ones?

If all Q's could be answer, that would be much appreciated
    Cheers :D

No you won't have to restrict a 125cc machine. With a provisional A licence you could get a bigger bike like a restricted Suzuki Bandit 600, but you will pay a bit more for insurance.
Quinn Direct do motorbike insurance now, but your best bet for a reasonable quote will probably be with AON. Most 125's sound like lawnmowers. €2000 sounds about right but I dont really know what they will quote you.
Good luck. And get some training.

    Thanks for the quick reply

What would be the biggest bike (size engine cc) that a 19 on Provisional can get insured on if you know. I would like to buy a bike which looks a superbike style.

    The Suzuki looks pretty nice

    Thanks

Seeing as your 19 and its your first time being insured I would forget about Superbike style machines for the moment. Stick with a 125 or a 250 for a year or two, get some lessons and your full licence. Even though on provisional A licence you would be able to drive the factory restricted Bandit, that doesn't mean you would get insured on one.
You will just have to ask the insurance companies for quotes on a few machines to find out what you will be able to ride.
Get some lessons though, you will save money on insurance.

Yeh I'll be better off. One in Swords is ideal.

Could it be possible I could get insured on a CBR250 (rr)? or just rule it out for now?

    All the best
    Cheers

Just be prepared for shocking quotes. If you can be patient, get something less risky (lower insurance group) in a 250 so when you do your test on it it will be good forever. If you get a 125 you'll be wanting a 250 to do your test on later on!

I'm 21 and have been riding since I was 18. Just to warn you: be ready for a long hard battle with insurance companies until you are at least 25. And I would give up the dream of a supersports style bike at least for a little while.
At your age the only reasonable quote you will get is on a varadero or tdr, a cruiser style bike (like a suzuki moraider) or something that looks like its been built in the 1970's, like a honda cb. And when I say reasonable it is still ridiculous considering your engine is the size of a cup of tea!!

That said, I am almost out the other end of this nightmare and it is totally worth it. (bandit 600 here I come)

fwiw I know someone locally selling an 06 GS125 for Eur1600. And, my wife is now officially throwing in the towel and selling her DR200.

You gotta love the old 50% reduction when you turn 25.

It would be nice if insurance companies would give you your new found experience on the morning of your birthday in present form......with a ribbon.

It is possible to both train and do the test with a hire bike from a school, without even owning a bike. Obviously the applicable provisional licence category is needed. Given that a quicker centre can supply a test in six weeks, that might be an idea. Even if you only do an Aon assessment out of it, it will help lower the quote or get one if you are younger. Also, if someone has a 50 or 125cc, it makes getting an A possible.
