    as far as i know, you drag the clip you want to cut from -- drag clips here to build your project --- section up to the -- clips-- section. Play it, stop when you want to stop. Then drag that clip back down to the --- drag clips here to build your project --- and it plays from where you stopped in clips.

    hope that works for you. Hope i know what i am talking about. I am half a year with mac.

    Put the playhead where you want to cut. Go to edit and it should show you an option to split clip at playhead.

    What's a "dame cutting tool" ??:confused::D

    There are two ways to do this. As triple-h says you can set in entry and exit point on a clip and leave it uncut. I prefer to select the clip for viewing decide where you want to cut then press the Apple Key and 't'. This will cut the clip in two but both halves will still be selected. You'll need to select another clip and then select the bit you don't want and drag it back to the slots on the right hand side just in case you need it later. If a clip was called clip_4 the two halves will be called clip_4-1 and clip_4-2 or similar.

    It's been a while since I've used iMovie so this may be dud.
