Bad NCT timing

I recently imported a 21 year old convertible, which I only use and tax for 3 months during the summer months. The date of first registration is January 1. For my first NCT I can have the car tested 6 months before this date but for subsequent NCTs I can only have the car tested at the earliest 3 months before this date, but I don't really want to pay tax for 6 months until October when I'm not likely to be using the car anyway. The engine size is 2.2, which makes a difference of several hundred euros between 3 and 6 months.

    Any advice?

    The NCT lasts 2 years, so I don't see the point 2 years = 2 summers = 1 nct every 2 years.

You can do the NCT anytime after the due date. For some reason my cars NCT is always expired about 6 months or more before I think about sorting things out.

Take the car for its NCT after you taxed it for the summer, you can NCT a car any time after the due date and as its not on the road anyway before that date then its not illegal.

NCT is back dated to the last due date anyway...(or the bi-anniversary of first registration if imported....

ie if first reg'd 1.1.77 like mine was..the last due date would be 1.1.07...if it was first reg 1.1.78..tough luck....NCT would expire 31,12.07!

Thanks! I didn't know if this was possible/legal.
