Car clamping

I currently live quite close to the point theatre on the other side of the river and two nights ago came home around 10 o clock to find that there was little or no space to park my car near my flat. All the spaces in the vicinity we taken up by cars parked by people who were attending the concert in the point for George Micheal. I ended up trying to squeeze my car in between 2 other cars which were parked up on the curb close to my flat.

The next day I came home to find my flatmate almost in tears cause her car was nowhere to be seen and she knew that it was probably clamped and lay in some street nearby. I then realised that my car had been clamped also. Upon ringing the clamping company I found out that the car was moved to a couple of streets parralel to ours and would cost a total of 80 quid to get un-clamped. This kinda crap annoys the hell out of me, I know that I may have parked illegally but I had no choice because of the hordes of people attending the gig the night beforehand. I found out that around 10 other people from my block of flats were in the same boat too.

As a resident in the area do I have a leg to stand on in terms of an appeal or should I just take it on the chin and put it down to experience?...

You sound like you live In Irishtown/Ringsend.
If I were you park further away from the river/apartment for that night.
Theres plenty of space further around the area away from that particular location.
If I am in the wrong area, apologies.

They moved the car to clamp it???

Check VERY carefully for damage to the car; several years ago my car was lifted and put on a street nearby. The wing mirror was knocked off the car at it's new location, which the towing company ended up paying for.

As for being clamped, it's a local authority problem. Find your local councilpeople, and approach them individually as a group. Point out that it's an ongoing problem, and tell them you want answers as to what is going to be done about it. If anyone in the group owns their own property, get them involved as spokespeople if you can. Also get landlords/management companies involved.

Are you paying for street parking to Dublin City Council or is the parking on your street first come first serve, if you pay an annual parking charge then I would appeal it on the grounds that you could not avail of parking you pay for and then for future concerts let the local residents get onto the Gardai about the problems you have when concerts are on nearby and object to the holding of concerts by the organisers until you have a guarantee it won't happen again
