    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good websites that explain all this new Dual Core etc etc speeds etc.

Must admit I have fallen behind on this and used to understand it completely.

    IE P4 3GHz or 3.4ghz

But now with all the dual core action going on i'm a bit lost.

Are there ways of telling how good the processor is from the T number on a chip.

    Dual core/Core Duo etc etc

The chips are showing Dual core @ 1.7ghz does this mean you are getting 2 cores at 1.7ghz each = 3.4ghz or what!??

I prefered the old way :D

Help me I'm lost and need to catch up again.

    Cheers,

    F

The clock speed is fairly out-dated in measuring a chips performance these days. There are a number of factors which contribute to a better chip

Yea, chips are now like, for example, Peugout cars as in you can only tell the difference by the numerical name. With the web you can make comparisons of all Dual Core chips, Intel and AMD have a comparison tables on each of their sites.

Yeah, your total compute power is roughly 3.4GHz (there is some overhead), but that is a LOT better than a P4 at 3.4GHz if used properly. I'd say you should have a look on tomshardware. They have CPU comparisson charts.
