Peats are doing that too, as are alot of places. It's a Sony specific deal rather than a store deal.

Wonder can you get it with no OS. Dont fancy Vista

Sony are generally very overpriced for what your actually getting. And if you do still fancy this I would advise against buying from PC World, even Peats would be better if you do end up having problems or dont want some member of PC World staff trying to harass you into buying their insurance plan.

    Update*

    Main Features: (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/218560)
Intel Pentium Dual Core T2130 Processor
    1.86GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB Cache - Not a Core 2
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
1024MB RAM - 2GB is recommended for Vista usage
    120GB Hard Drive
    DVD ReWriter MultiDrive
    15.4" Widescreen Display
224MB Intel GMA 950 Graphics - Integrated graphics are the Devil for any kind of gaming/design work
    Wireless Enabled
Up to 3.75 Hours Battery Life

Conclusion - Not worth the money

No you can't get sony computers without it, and they always come absolutely full to the brim with crappy software and don't come with install disks for their OS so you can't do a clean install. They just come with a recovery partition.

Buddy got that vaio laptop about a month ago for that price... Seems ok, he barely uses the thing, got it as a fashion accessory (plonker) he uses iTunes & not much else... I get the impression it would be a grand laptop for word processing, maybe music & video but not much else...

Definitely a poser's machine, people who haven't much interest in computers but feel they need a laptop none the less...

Why is it a poser's machine? So what if you don't have any interest in computers but want a laptop - what's wrong with that? Is it not a good choice for a basic model when you just want to use it for the things you pointed out...

Because why would any normal person buy a latop for 1500 if they only want to do things that could be done on a 500 one?

    It's 799, not 1500...

You'd be hard pressed to find a laptop for 500 quid with 120GB HD and 1GB of RAM..

What kind of dimensions are we looking at for the Sony? I agree that it is underpowered for that price (compared to the Dell also on BA), but if it was slim and light like many Sony laptops are it might be worth a l@@k.

The image on the PCW website cetainly looks thin but this could just be a generic Sony laptop image:confused:

That "offer" price is the non-offer price for a similar-spec Dell Inspiron laptop though (and if you keep an eye out for offers on here, you can do what I did and pick one up for about €450 :D).

For the spec, that machine isn't worth it.

Exactly. Also the guy (nehpets?) originally said why would someone pay €1500 when a €500 laptop would do the job, even 120GB HD and 1GB could be overkill for the basic tasks some people use laptops for. A €200 second hand laptop would be good enough for some peoples mild web browsing and office work, so in their case even purchasing a €700 is realistically to much.
