Insuring Instruments

I'm sick of being paranoid of being robbed again. Anyone got their gear insured? Worth it? I have no idea where to look though. So many agencies. Any agencies deal with musical gear?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    House insurance?

My home insurance covers all my gear, whether it's robbed from the house or broken/stolen when it's out a gig or in transit.

You should check your own policy, or make a few enquiries with other providers. Works out a sh1tload cheaper to include it with house insurance then just trying to insure your gear separately.

I checked with my home insurance a few years back - they would NOT cover the gear if it was in a venue or in a car. If you're making money form the use of the gear then your home insurance is irrelevant (at least that's what I was told). I got a price from Coyle Hamilton to insure the gear while gigging but never took out the policy - they still wouldn't cover it in a vehicle.

I checked into this before, a lot of the companies had certain conditions to the insurance that depended on the use of the instruments. Most of them wouldn't insure instruments being used in Rock etc. bands. So that kinda defeats the purpose.

The safest thing to do is just check to see if the gear is insured on the house insurance and when you take it outside, guard it with your life! ;)

One thing I've noticed from the stolen threads popping up in here is that it seems that a lot of people store their gear in the bands practice space which I think is a really BAD idea.

    Lark insurance

Insured my double bass and many other instruments with world wide cover, unattended vehicle cover etc. Also covered my less mobile/less important instruments in the house. They only list classical instruments on their website but if you ring them they're very accommodating and they will quote in euros.
