Hi i have been studying single honours Economics at UCC and have been achieving good first class honours grades. I have decided that i will continue to masters level and i have narrowed the choice down to a few: Bath, Oxford (long shot) and TCD. Anyway i would like to get peoples feedback regarding this masters degree in TCD and any further comments suggestions are welcome!

    Hi Daithi,

I take it you're referring to the M.Sc. and not the M.Litt-to-become-a-Ph.D.?

The M.Sc. is an extremely quantitative course that tends toward research rather than employment, although with that level of quants anyone will hire you.

Have you any idea what you'd like to do on a longer horizon? If you're looking to e.g. go into finance, the M.Sc. probably isn't the best.

On a related note, what do most the graduates of the Trinity Msc. in Economics end up doing? I presume a fair few do Phds in the end but what about industry? What fields have graduates gone into?

Actually i would love to get into research so that sounds great. My main field of interest would be economic growth/development and the monetary economics. But yeah its the Msc i would like to do i pretty good with quants, i got 80% last year in my quants course. I would like to get in public policy rather than work in the private sector, maybe the ERSI or Central bank, something like that. Its very difficult from where im standing to see where im going to be though (maybe cause im in Cork ;) ) So thats why im here asking questions.
