Does sound like a repair job. Digibox power supplies and sw sensitive to power surges. Some models (Grundigs) power supplies particularly dodgy.
Have you tried full power off for a few hours.
I had a portable TV blow under similar circumstances about 10 yrs ago. ESB doing repairs down the road, power off but TV in standby. Power came on when they finished work. Loudish bang from TV, dead TV. Spoke to the guys doing the repair who assured me it couldnt have anything to do with them. I told them it had. They gave me ESB number to ring. Got an initial denial of responsibility but I persevered. Said I would follow up with engineers repair report. Cost £80 to repair. Power FET AFAIK. Sent report & strong letter. Received refund and good will but disclaimer of responsibility letter. Contentedness restored.

Is the plug-top power supply still giving 12 volts DC?
    (measure it with a multimeter).
