Citroen Headlight Advice Please

I have to change the headlights on my 1997 Citroen ZX Estate to drive on the right.

The current headlights use twin H1 bulbs and its going to cost me about €300 just to buy the units. There is also an alternate version of headlights which use single H4 bulbs. I think they were only fitted to pre 1995 models. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable size wise? I realise that there would have to be some wiring changes made to facilitate H4 instead of H1 bulbs but the savings, about 40%, would be worth the effort.

    Thanks.

I remember years ago you could get yellow 'beam benders' that stuck on your current lamps. Not sure if they're what your looking for. But if your only going for a few weeks they might be the way to go. But if your going for a longer time then probably the best bet is to replace the lamps.

In relation to the lamps, have you tried a supplier like Hella? They may have them cheaper than a main dealer. They'll probably have to order the right hand traffic lamps for you, but they should be able to get them.

    Also try GSF http://www.gsfcarparts.com/contact/branches.asp

This query is probably best posted in a Citroen specific forum

Had a quick look at some pics there, the pre and post facelift ZX look to have the same shape headlights with the grille and bonnet being changed in the facelift. Also the pre facelift Volcane and other higher models look to have the double optic lights.

It would be a logical progression for the higher models to have the double optic lights pre facelift with all models getting them post facelift. However the mountings etc. could also have changed!

    Thanks for the replies folks.

The mountings are what I was worrying about. I think the lights are the same size.

All the sites I have found so far are trying to sell much more expensive after-market replacement light units. Angel Eyes etc. Costs aside I'd be embarrassed to put them on a 10 yr old car. Boy racer I'm not.

Ebay sellers and GSF don't seem to distinguish between the pre and post facelift ZX. This would suggest that the lights had the same fittings pre and post facelift. Here is one seller selling a nearside light
