Hey everyone, I'm heading off interrailing on Tuesday and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for an online site where I could upload my pictures as I go along? My current memory card is only 256mb and I plan on taking a LOT of photo's so I was wondering if there was a site where I could upload my pics as I go but not lose any picture quality? I know some sites shrink down your pictures which is exactly what I dont want! Any help would be appreciated!

    what calina said....

Or, you could try out our latest addition, www.pix.ie

Between the two I'd be more inclined to take flickr; At the moment anyway...

Well *sigh* as I said I'm looking for a site that WONT shrink down my pictures so flickr isnt any good. As far as I can tell pix.ie is the same deal so I dont think that'll work either.

Anyone have any idea how many photos (roughly) a 1gb memory card would hold and would this be a better option?

Get some more memory for your camera before you go, these guys are in Celbridge, you should be able to have it delivered before you go.

Er. No it dosn't. It actually resizes them so you keep your original jpeg, along with having more usable sizes.

    Should I have sighed there?

Flickr won't shrink anything if you pay for a pro account, but the cost of paying for net access for the time it will take to upload any significant amount of photos will shrink your wallet fairly quick.

Not trying to be smart but a 1GB card will hold 4 times more than your current one.

All labs will download your pictures to CD. And you can do the same in almost all e-cafes.
Ask some of your IT frineds if they have FTP and upload it there from e-cafes.

Considering I won't be using it again really and money is tight with the one month holiday I won't be paying for a pro account!

I think i'll probably just get a bigger card, it'll last me much longer and its something I will use again. Thanks for your help.

yeah you're better off, keep all the photos on one central place and then keep the fingers crossed that you dont lose or damage it after taking a months worth of photos. If you are serious about taking a nice few photos that you can look back on, invest the 20 euro for a pro flickr and a few euro for a number of different cards..egss and baskets and all that.

You don't happen to have an MP3 player that you can buy a lead for that kind of thing, do you? Some MP3 players have the functionality to act like a storage host - you can plug your camera in and they copy everything onto their little hard drives...

I brought my photo iPod when I was backpacking for 6 months, and bought the photo usb adapter that let me transfer photos directly from the camera to the iPod. No need for an internet cafe. That worked really well for me.

In the days before the adapter, I lost all the photos I took in St Petersburg when I got them burned onto a CD in a random internet cafe. When I got home I realised that the files on the CD were corrupt  :(

There's a 4 gb pen drive in aldi today for 29.99. Backup your stuff onto that. Or email them to a gmail account. Does your laptop have a dvd burner, that's another 4.6 gig there..

I'd be inclined to say - do both, if at all possible. Keeping them all on one tiny memory stick opens you to the chance of corrupting/losing that, and just having them online means you have to rely on internet access.

Photobox.ie have a limited amount of free storage as well, you get even more if you order prints from them as far as I can remember. But it really would be worth considering the flickr pro option. It's really a lot for the money, and you'll be able to use it for other holidays/weddings etc etc to share pics with your friends.

Go with the flickr pro account and a larger card for the camera. Give your friends and family the address and they can track your holiday via the pictures as well.

With regards to the card if you are somewhere that demands you take a lot of piccies like Lahambra in Granada for example you can fill the card in a couple of hours. Why not spend a few quid to keep the memories of what will hopefully be a trip of a lifetime safe.
