hey i'm going to san francisco in november. I was in LA at the same time last year and the weather was gorgeous. Is san fran the same or would it typically be colder? I heard it's the rainy season at that time and I don't know what to bring. I have images of irish rain in my head and dont know whether to expect warmth or not.
    Thanks for any info.
Also ideas on what to do would be great.
    thanks again

As it's further north it will be a bit colder and milder - it can vary from quite ok to not overly dissimilar to November in Europe, though probably not quite as bad.

Hi Cacio, i've just arrived home from san francisco. i was really surprised by the weather. we were in LA before it and it was completely different. it got very foggy because the hot inland temperatures acted like a vacuum and drew in a lot of fog across the bay. it was also very breezy because it is so hilly. one of the guides said it does get much warmer and pleasant later in the year but i would definitely bring a light coat for the evenings just in case!

When you go there you should visit Alcatraz. definitely book it in advance online because it sells out about 3 weeks in advance and there is only one company that does tours actually on the island. the tour itself is exceptional.
We also hired bicycles and cycled across the Golden Gate Bridge. I'd recommend doing that too. it's a cycle of about 8 miles all of which is downhill
once you get over the bridge. you end up in a little town called sausalito which is cool to look around. you can then bring your bike home on a ferry across the bay with you.
Pier 39 is always buzzing and there are loads of touristy shops, street entertainers and restaurants around there.
The nightlife is good around the North Beach area, theres a couple of clubs there, most of them you dont have to pay into and drinks are reasonable compared to places like LA.

Enjoy, i preferred san fran much more to LA cos the atmosphere was so much more chilled out...though the weather was a bit crap!
