Fota Wildlife Park meetup

Who'd be interested in coming down some weekend to take a spin out to Fota wildlife park? Weather permitting of course, short notice would be this bank holiday Monday. If people can't make that, maybe the Saturday of the following week?

Just in case anyone doesn't know where I'm on about - http://www.fotawildlife.ie/index.php

It's about 15 mins outside Cork city, accessible by car and train from the city. I know there's been interest in this in the past, I'd like to actually get it done before this brief stint of weather we're having turns to crap again.

no.. I wouldn't expect you to travel the entire length of the country... Offer is open anyway if you find a cheap flight :D

If it's the following weekend I may be able to tag along.

How great a meet in cork and i'm working that Saturday:(

And its one of my favourite places to go. I drag anyone who visits me in Cork for a visit around fota.

Blah! I finish work in Cobh (where fota is) at half 10 on the Sunday if anyone fancies the Sunday.

    Curse you Rymus:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

Right... if not this weekend, or next weekend, how about the weekend after? 18th August I'm determined to get this done sometime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

I'd be on for it, and a Sunday if possible Ryan, not the Bank Holiday though, she'd kill me, I work 6 days as it is and gig at weekends, if she didn't see me this weekend, my life wouldn't be worth living!

any day is a possibility at this stage :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

You don't give people much notice. I'd love to go, but a trip to Cork would take a little planning.

When you have a date set, I'll certainly see if I'm free. It should be a good day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Last time I was in Fota Wildlife was when I was a kid... course there was that time *someone* had the great idea of going to the gardens in the pissing rain. Curse you and your macro flower water shots Ryan!!! :D

Twas a fun day though. The cake and tea were nice ;)

I'd go along to this, whenever it is.

Any date set for this yet?

I wonder if Fota will do a group rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

I think they do, depending on the size of the group.. As for dates, I reckon I'll just turn up some weekend and leave it to the psychic powers of others to be there also :D

Oh Darren if this does go ahead and your thinking of coming down, theres no bother bringing the mutt as well, the mutt can hang out with my mutt while photos are been taken in the fota wildlife park.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

problem being that if the mutt bothers darren's pony, the mutt will be quickly eaten, leaving only a collar in the back garden to allow us to conclude what happened... :D

Ah it was just the abruptness that was quite amusing.

He nodded to say yes, I think, so I may bring him down :D He hasn't been away in a while.

Now getting back to dates for this. I don't have any weekends free in August so how about the 1st/2nd September?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

perfect! Such is my complete lack of organization skills, I'm more than happy for the 1st and 2nd of Sept. I'll add that to the google calendar

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

Those dates sound good to me too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

Well, if Saturday the 1st is the date, I might be able to swing a few hours off work. It'd be tres cooler if it was the Sunday for me!

Sadly missed out on the Dublin one due to other commitments...shame really as its so much easier go from Waterford to Dublin Zoo.

Will try my best to make this, just got to figure out how to get from Waterford to Foto wildlife park without a car :)
Saturday would be easiest for me to get to I'd imagine..with buses and all unless somebody is nice enough to offer a lift?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

I'll be on Little Island tomorrow, but no time for messin' around.

I would have thought it's far quicker & easier to get to Cork from Waterford instead of Dublin. Cork is 1.5 hours max from Waterford...

Well yes and no I suppose, dublin would be a case of getting on a train and then walking to Dublin Zoo, Cork...well while I know how to get there via bus I've no idea how to get to Foto after that

So atleast to me its alot more work ;)
I take it this is all going ahead still?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

    Ah.. public transport.. silly me..#

Bus to Cork, commuter train back out to Fota :)

I take it it's still going ahead too.. I havent heard otherwise and I'm still going to be heading down to Fota that day, even if it is me, myself & I

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 28,536 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cabaal

Yep public transport, abit lacking in the car department at present unfortunately.

I was actually going to ask the same time if this was going ahead still :)

    So, what day, what time?????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

    Saturday... lets say 11am

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭bovril

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus
