Roland XV Editor Problem.

    Hi All,

I just downloaded the XV Editor from the Roland website. It's a lot easier to see all the keyboard info on the laptop screen rather than the 2 line screen on the keyboard.

The problem is, I regularly get messages telling me that the XV is not connected or is incorrectly connected. I've checked and doubled checked all connections and all is well (I've used MIDI cables that I know are OK). If I make a change (of any kind) on the laptop it sends the relevant SysEx command to the keyboard but the XV Editor on the laptop throws back the error and doesn't show the changes made. This is intermittent, but is more prevalent when I'm using a MIDI player and changing patches as the file plays (to see which patch sounds best).

Does anyone have any experience of the Roland XV Editor? And can anyone shed any light on the problem.

For the record, my setup is as follows : Roland XV-88 connected to an Apple G4 PowerBook via a MidiSport 2x2.

I know there is a software update available for the XV-88, but I am reluctant to go ahead with the update as it comprises of more than 30 SMFs. The most recent update is v1.10, but I don't know how to check the current version on my XV - does anybody know how I do this?

I don't know how many people use the set up I have, but I reckon it's not too many so this is probably a long shot. I'm hoping there's a few XV users out there..............I've attached a screenshot of the error message - just in case.
