This is the second post for “power” so I’ll try to clear up some questions before you ask them. Sorry about the size of the pictures, it's just that when view in medium, you miss a lot of the detail, plus as being mostly black, jpeg worked quite well should be under 1 meg.

The setup I had was for a spud gun, i.e. a BBQ lighter wired to two hangers than were cut and bent into the shape you see, the big cut on the one on the left is from my excellent skills at using a grinder. I’ve since added a few new bits of wire, but nothing serious.

I knew that to "see" the blue light clearly I'd need to go "low" light, and with the triggering of the BBQ lighter I'd need to have a 2-3 second exposure, thats why I went for the ISO100 and f16-22 (plus the DOF is really tight when your at 1.2m at 300mm)

For more "power" see the flickr set.

For these photo’s I used a piece of wood with a screw in it with a rubber ring around the base and the rubber stopper for use on galvanized roof nail, that’s why you can see the spark “arc” out over the rubber ring.

Then I used a bolt, rubber o-ring, and a washer.

For the “water” one, I used an old dish added water and salt to improve conductivity, then I added milk, to give the water a better “sheen”, and finally I added in some food coloring for the “blood”. With the salt water/milk I seemed to be getting an extra “red” glow from the sparks, I think this might be the extra salt, which I think burns red ?

Fantastic shots. I LOVE technical photography. There are only three steps left. Make it look really good by well made electrodes, be patient and show it ti the world! :-)

yea, the electrodes aren't the best :) there a crappy bit of wire I had lying around the house, I can't even fix them in place, complete trial and error, then of course they bloody move over time as well.

But I think I have proved that the shots are pretty good, so just a bit of tidy up and re-shoot again.
The spud gun will have to wait another bit longer....
