Got a letter in the door from ntl offering me 1mg broadband and digital tv for €9.99 for 3 months and €24.99 there after. Our area has recently changed over from chorus analogue to ntl digital.
Just wondering what people think of this offer as i'm presently paying €21.49 for ntl analogue by itself.
Is the 1mg broadband with ntl any good?

Don't forget that you will still pay for analogue.

Are you saying if i upgrade i will have to pay what i'm paying now and the €24.99? This was not mentioned anywhere in the offer.

To have digital tv or broadband with ntl you also pay for analogue.

No it will just cost you the €4 extra. I just got 2mb and digital last week for 15.99 pm for 6 months and €50 thereafter.

Not sure about existing customers mind.

Yep I used my discount at this stage but it is €50 a month, same as Polo when his discount expires....

Yes, the adverts NTL are using are misleading. The "digital TV from €9.99" ads I've seen do not make it obvious you still need to pay for the basic package as well.

You don't. Go Digital Select is 9.99 per month for the first three months, then 25.99 per month thereafter. There is no need to pay for analogue TV on top of that. Further info here.

People are getting confused with broadband. If you have NTL broadband, it's compulsory to have a TV package from NTL too. This could be a digital or the basic analogue.

Not correct, the digital charge is in addition to the charge for analogue.

So the analogue charge is part of the €25.99 a month then - so the digital is only about a fiver a month?

    Correct.

Analogue TV from Chorus / NTL is €21.49.
Digital TV from Chorus / NTL starts at €25.99.

The CATV feed that comes into your house carries the analogue TV, digital TV and broadband. All on the one cable. Even if you don't subscribe to digital TV, it's still being supplied.

You're right, the difference in price between the digital offering and the analogue, is only €4.50. Think of it as €4.50 per month to rent the set top box from them, which, in the case of analogue, is not required.

Is there a price difference between having the broadband and digital TV compared to just having the digital TV?

Yes. The prices for the different broadband packages are on the Chorus / NTL websites. You pay for broadband in addition to your analogue or digital TV subscription.

Ah, that makes sense. So what they're really saying (according to the Chorus site anyway) is you can get digital TV and 1Mb broadband for a tenner a month for the first 6 months, but then it's €46 for both afterwards!

Sorry for digging up and old thread but I'm not entirely clear on the situation.

Analog tv with NTL is €23.50 and digital is €26, for way more channels.
I get the impression from this thread that the €26 has analog included.

Does this mean I would not have to opt for multiroom and keep analog on one of the tvs?

I already have analog tv with NTL so I am thinking about getting one of these combined packages and switching from Smart. Smart are now introducing IPTV so that got me comparing with other providers. I thought Smart was a great deal but these packages from NTL seem to offer faster speeds for less.

My tv is a few years old, would this work with a digital signal?

The thing that gets me is that it seems too good to be true, that it would only be an extra €2.50 a month for a lot of extra channels?

Yup, the analogue is there too.

    Yes, just split the feed.

Yes, this is because they want to get everyone off analogue and on to digital. They'll then switch off analogue, leaving the vacant space available for more digital channels (in theory).

Or indeed one Analogue channel is up to 200 Broadband customers or up to 12 TV channels. Normally less in practice.

Yes, but you're not allowed to watch it as you're not paying for it.
