Using realplayer on RTE.ie

Im just curious.. everytime I try to watch something on RTE.ie, realplayer kicks in and for the first few seconds, all is well.

Then.. the sound quality drops like mad and the picture becomes very blurry. Is there anything I can do with any other software, or realplayer, that will make it a better "experience" ?? :)

How are your network settings in RealPlayer?

Do Tools --> Preferences --> Connection. Set your Normal [Internet connection speed] and Maximum bandwidth [LAN speed] settings.

You may also want to change the settings under General --> Playback Settings.

Its something to do with the buffer.. I have the connection set to DSL ( <1mbps seen as my connection sometimes drops below 1mb) and the setting to buffer the maximum 120 seconds of material if needed.

When I do that, it stays relatively good for 124 seconds and then deteriorates, or 34 seconds if I set it to 30 seconds buffer.

Could be all down to your connection so. Most apps do a good job at buffering but I've also noticed drop outs here at home when someone was streaming a video off RTÉ's site using RealPlayer and that was a 2 Mbps connection with no-one else using it at the time.

Could be from RTE's side so.. Maybe a 3 or 4mb connection is needed if they're to work properly.

I've used it on a 512kb connection and although it takes a while to start it works fine after, the odd glitch but perfectably watchable, just out of interest who's your provider?

    NTL..

It starts crystal clear and then goes blurry and jumpy with poor sound.

I'm now using a 2mb NTL connection and it's perfect, I'm in Galway though. I know of what sounds like the problem on a 2mb DSL (BT) line, no solution was ever found I'm afraid. The computer was even moved and tested elsewhere and it worked, so it's not a issue with the computer (or the players settings) or the connection speed...
