Stenaline fast ferry to Wales from Rosslare

I am booked to travel on stenaline fast ferry to wales in September to go to college. Does anyone have any experience with this route? How dependable is the weather during that time of the year? Are there many cancellations? The weather in the UK right now doesn't seem to making any difference to the crossings from Rosslare - according to the ferrycheck service on the stenaline website anyway.
Any info or experiences would be great,

    Thanks.

I went to uni in Wales so know the trip very well indeed. I did it a few times but still found it best to get Ryanair to Cardiff although I know that route has been cancelled now. Where are you based in Ireland OP and where are you going to live in Wales? I am asking because Stena is so so so unreliable and rarely sail when windy. Irish Ferries were always a bit more gung-ho and oftentimes when the Stena sailing was cancelled, had to cadge a lift with Irish Ferries instead. Are you sailing to Pembroke or Fishguard? Another problem is if the sailing is late at all you can miss your connecting train which is a complete pain. All I will say is, if at all possible jujst take the pain away and fly to Bristol instead and get the train from there. Would help if you gave more details OP.

We'd travel that route a fair bit and it does get cancelled easily if it is windy. It happened to us over new year and we had to pay to stay in a b and b in Rosslare, and Stena wouldn't fund that. The slow ferry is a little better cos it can sail in higher winds. I'd say you'd be ok in September though. I'm booked to go on it in Sept and I'm not too worried, it should be ok. It's generally winter time when it get cancelled. If it is cancelled and you're there in good time they can move you to the irish ferries slow boat, unless like us at new year it is already full.

    thanks for replies.

I am going from rosslare to fishguard and then to aberystywth.

The alternatives for air and train are soooo complicated, as you seem to have to change trains at least twice. I could fly from galway to manchester and drive - i am a bit iffy about driving in the UK, especially around motorways. I could also fly to bristol but that is the same thing really. Has anyone used this alternative? also, flybe flys to birmingham from galway.

as i live in mayo, i do have access to knock, galway and shannon airports for all the possible air alternatives.

I wanted to have my car as when i get off the ferry, i will only have a few hours drive.

i am very fearful of cancellations as i very much need to be on time for this week at college.

i must have a look at irish ferries and see what my options are

    Cheers
