Optical Out on NTL

I just got NTL Digital this morning and the guy connected it up as per the booklet - Scart and RF cables from the box to the tv and the NTL cable from the wall to the box.

I have an optical cable that I have just connected from the box to my surround sound receiver. Is there a way to stop the audio also going through the Scart cable and out the tv speakers? Or do I just have to turn the tv volume down to zero?

you could also get one of the scart cables that split into left/right audio and video rca and just hook up the video one

You could just cut the audio cables on the SCART plug, or pull out the relevant pins from one of the plugs. The Wikipedia page shows pinouts.
