If this happens boxing or Krav Maga wont save you, neither will any other MA.

David has right crossed the correct.

Boxing is one of the most functional sports/self defence activities you can do, if you really want to get more well rounded as a 'fighter' then maybe Judo, BJJ or Sub Wrestling would be a good way to go.

Waterford have a vale tudo (MMA) club that would help you in that regard.

I think it's fair to say that there is a pro BJJ/MMA bias here on boards. It is important to be aware of that fact when formulating an opinion. Im not criticising in any way those MMA/BJJ fans who put forward their chosen system (as indeed i do). Yet even they will acknowledge that they outnumber fans of other systems considerably.

If you want to find out if Krav Maga is "All it's cracked out to be" why dont you go ahead and try it.
    Find out for yourself!
If being instructed properly, taking into account numbers attending and their experience you will train in multiple attacker scenarios, with knives/sticks and even guns. One would utilize a similar defence against a knife as a glass.
You should also train with attacks coming from 360 degrees.
There are no IKMF UK and Ireland recognised instructors in Waterford, although a girl who trained with me all year is now working in Waterford and she tells me theres a Polish guy teaching a class right there in Waterford.
pm/email me and i'll see if i can get you more info.

My brother did krav maga and it has saved his ass in two mugging attempts in the last two years. Not to advocate violence as a solution but the second time he was held up with a knife. He was unable to flee so he disarmed his attacker and broke his arm. I think this proves that krav maga is effective self defence.

I think this is probably correct. I have to say though...I think that's because they're highly effective. I've never done Krav myself, but BJJ and Judo both seem highly effective to me (I have very limited experience with both, but it is more than zero :)).

Would still like to give Krav a lash some day.

OP: Go for it. Nothing to lose. In fairness though, if 3 fellas jump you, one who wants to glass you, you're f****d regardless.

in fairness, the odds arnt great, but with some solid training those odds look a little better that without.
