NTL Digital questions

Hi, I am looking to get NTL Digital. I have 3 NTL analogue points at the moment and want to keep 2 of them and get a digital box for the other. But on the digital point I also want to keep the analogue feed (as it goes into a dvd/hd box).

Is it possible to split the cable just before it goes into the ntl digital box? Will this degrade the signal?

Also, if I want to move my ntl digital box to one of the other rooms is it just a matter of plugging it in there? Thanks.

when u get digital in the third room, you will still have the basic channels, and yeah its just a matter of pluging in the box in a different room if u want to move it

Yes, they install a splitter. One output goes to the digital box, the other to your TV/VCR/whatever .. your choice.

Well you also have to bring the filters with it, and if you don't have a proper NTL point on the wall you won't be able to connect the cable to the filter

Thanks. The reason I want to split the cable is that then I can watch the digital channels on my tv and I can use the analogue signal in my dvd/hd recorder. I can then use its timer to schedule recordings etc. (as far as I know you can't schedule the ntl digital box to switch to a certain channel at a certain time which is pretty useless for recording)

It's a straight splitter, not a filter, and if you don't need to attach an analogue device as well, you don't need the splitter, you can just plug the digital box straight into the ntl: wall outlet.

the digital box has an analog passthrough so you can feed the annalog out to your vcr without a splitter

Well if your sure I always thought it was a filter to seperate the analog and Digital frequencies, but it might just be a splitter

iirc you can program the ntl box to change channel by using reminders.
however the guide only contains 2 days data so you cant do it for more than 2 days ahead

Mine doesn't. Is that on the newest (small silver) box?

100% sure ... it does exactly what it says on the box, i.e. two-way splitter.

Ntl are currently piloting a new box (mentioned on some forum or other here) with a 8 day guide which should be of more help for setting up recordings from digital. You could always upgrade your dvd recorder to on (I have a pioneer) that can control the digital box through it's own epg. They are brilliant. Afaik sony do them too.

All I can say is if you have any option other than NTL for digital take it.

I got NTL digital in a couple of months ago while it worked for about two weeks it went belly up after that.

It's impossible to get through to Customer service; try contacting them on 1800 321 321 and see how long it takes. When you do get through they have a unique take on what customer service entails and from my experience if it involves keeping the customer happy then it's not on the menu.

Aside from the appalling customer service the Digital service offered is poor in the extreme. To be honest I wasnt aware of this until I checked out the service some of my mates had and it really would put NTL to shame - if they had any that is.

Ultimately I got Sky and haven't looked back. The Digital Service is way beyond anything offered by NTL and customer service easily accessible, friendly and helpful.

do u have a picture of this new stb?

XJR, Have SKY as well. The only reason I am considering NTL Digital is that it costs only a little more than NTL analogue( which I already have). Would give up NTL completely if SKY had ITV (not in other channels) and a full version of channel 4.

Sweetie, the dvd/hd recorder I have is a Sony one. It does have a guide but I never got it to work. Will try again this weekend. Didn't realise you could use it to change channels on the NTL box.

my experiences with NTL customer care have been very good.

Altho i agree about their product not being as good as Sky.

Unless they are trialling two new boxes at the moment, from what I've read the new box is a PVR, so you wouldn't actually need to set up recording for an external device it would record them itself.

So you have had NTL all along then. Your original post stated the opposite.

If you are using digital try rebooting the STB.
