Im buying either a wii or a ds tomorrow but i cant really decide which, money is no issue buying either
portability and final fantasy titles are one of the reasons for the ds
the wii is cool for sports type games with a good few upcoming titles but the wii already has quite a big library of games
i also have interest in homebrew so that would be ds
i really cant decide now but the wii seems like a much better with the games out now

I've got both and I wouldn't be able to choose one over the other. They both have such strengths. DS is great when travelling or being able to play a few quick games every now and then.

Polar opposites though aren't they? Like choosing a PS2 over a PSP.

I have both and use my DS more. With flashcards and homebrew, you can do a hell of a lot with it.

Love my Wii too. Although, games are expensive at the moment and I don't have it chipped. So it doesn't get used as much.

If you can ONLY have one, I'd get a DS at the moment and wait for the Wii to get on a bit.

i would get a wii anyday even though theres not much choice of games but the virtual console might give some entertainment

If there isn't that much choice of games, why would you chose it over a console that has LOADS of games? You make no sense ;)

There's quite a large homebrew DS scene which has all manner of emulators. Such as nesDS, snesDS, picodrive etc.

Combined with a flash card, it's one of my favorite consoles of all time. For a hand held, that's something else.

where can i get homebrew info?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭Stalfos

I'd buy a DS right now. The wii is interesting but the novelty starts to wear off after a bit. Maybe in a year when there are more games, then buy it *cough* super smash bros brawl. The DS is like my bible right now anyway, i take it everywhere and preach about it to anyone who'll listen. lol :D

There are some great forums over at dcemu with loads of information -

    http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/

For some reason it's down at the moment. First time I've seen that.

If you want to run homebrew, you'll need one of these

    http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1459

Cheap enough. I've bought 8 now in total. Every time I show someone, they ask me to order one

Heh, I'm the same. Actually, it's more like my baby. Not only do I show it off wherever I go, I've started buying nice things for it. Like travel cases and fancy styluses... :D

Started putting some video on an sd card lately to try it out. Handy if I'm not in the humour for a game but wouldn't mind watching some Family Guy.

what would be nice there would to have the video mirrored on both screens or one big widescreen turned sideways

They're really completely different, and people should have both :)

The Wii doesn't have a big catalogue of games yet, so personally I'd say get the DS now and get a Wii later on when you have money again. My DS goes everywhere with me :)

What's nice about it too is that because it has a hinge in the middle, you can put it down flat somewhere and have the screen flipped foreward so it's like watching tv on a mini laptop or portable dvd player.

sideways with the image spread across both screens would be great. The hinge would also make it able to stand by itself.

    DS with Flashcart > Wii

I'd say, get a DS for now and then in a few months get a Wii.

The Wii's big hitters are not really getting unleashed for another few months either so you will not be missing THAT much. By big hitters I mean, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Super Smash Bros. They are all supposed to released by the end of the year so I'm sure you'll be able so save up enough before then.

i got a black lite with sim city ds and wario master of disguise and its currently undergoing its first charge which i understand is 3 hours, cani play it during this time or will it mess the battery?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 760 ✭✭✭TheAlmightyArse

You can play it while it's charging, it won't mind at all.

Also, New Super Mario Bros. is a pure joy, particularly compared with Wario Master of Disguise.

    NDS-150
    Mario Kart-45
Playing Mario Kart over WiFi with 2 friends and 4 complete strangers for 4 hours while waiting for a delayed flight...priceless :)

I have both, but If I had to buy one now, it would be the DS...better games on that system at the moment.

I <3 New super Mario Bros.

    Favorite DS games are

    Castlevania; Dawn of Sorrow.
    New Super Mario Bros.
    Advance Wars DS.

I'd buy one for those games alone.

The Wii? Meh...Still haven't had the urge to buy anything beyond Zelda and Wii Play.

Explain? You can get sick of anything. I play my DS mostly when I'm at home. Just because something is portable doesn't mean it's only for outside :p
