It's definetly a very Metal beast alright. Not to everyone's liking, but I think it sounds very good. It seems that a lot of people are nabbing the 100w version now, much moreso than the Invader 150.

Pretty sweet. Wouldn't mind hearing a more varied sound bite. Some power chords with the added lower note (a fifth perhaps? Not sure. I don't "do" theory :o ) and some ripping solos and neck pickup sounds etc.
I thought the Engl that Cormac Battle used at Kerbdog's Nightmare before Christmas sounded deadly. Dunno what it was.

Aye, there should be more clips to come. The guys over at rocksolidamps.com usually get quite a few clips of the amps in a variety of styles to get an overall idea of what the amp sounds like.

    I hear there's a 50 watter coming out in '08 too. Interesting.

Aye, as far as I know, there is. I suspect most people will be going for the 100 watter though.

People tend to equate power with value. If I had a choice (ie a 50 watt and 100watt version of a particular amp), I would never buy the 100watter unless I was playing massive stadium gigs without a PA & monitors.

50 watter will be lighter, cheaper, cheaper to revalve, easier to get into the sweet spot, and 75% as loud as the 100watter. That's where the smart money would go ;)

I never said 100 was better, just that I suspect most people would go for that. Compared it to the Mesa Rectifier series, most of the time, people use Dual Rectos, but I rarely see people using single, or triple rectos.

Also, I seriously doubt you'd be able to play a gig in a stadium with a 100watt amp without PA & monitors. :p

Oh yeah, im not saying it's better or worse either, just that there's a perception out there more watts = better value. So you're right in saying most guys WILL probably go for the 100watter.

Well, that was just an exaggeration, the point being that I just don't see a need for 100 watters these days.

And FWIW, that's where 100watt stacks came from - back in the day where PA systems could only handle vocals and maybe keys. So plenty of guys DID play stadiums with 100watt stacks (albeit maybe a couple of them ;))

I'd hardly call it bland. From from it infact.

I'd like to hear some more clips too.

Theres a song on rocksolidamps.com that is a regular on my mp3 player.

    This one:
Sound Clip: Fireball by Chris Schmitt
Equipment: Engl Amps - E625 Fireball
    Description:
This song again was done by my friend Chris Schmitt using the lead channel of the Engl Fireball. The back track rhythm is a POD as are any harmonies you hear. The lead playing is all Fireball and was done single tracked dual mic'd using my Uber k.

Aye, I'd equate it more with headroom than anything else. An interesting argument came up on sevenstring.org about power tube sag on the lower notes, and that at high volume it could sound like your amp is running out of breath (As someone else put it). So I think there's a lot to be said about higher-wattage amps, even if some guitar no0bs think that wattage=volume/power.

A bit more back on topic, I don't like the idea of Engl releasing the same amp in 50, 100 & 150 wattage versions. That's one of the reasons I think the SE is so perfect, as it's 50/100W switchable. Now if Engl had released an amp that was switchable from 50 watts right up to 150 watts instead of 3 different versions, that would've been awesome.
