Came across these threads on 2 + 2. Both predominantly concern tournament play that is either contrary to the terms and conditions of the online poker rooms or is unethical in nature. It seemed to have dawned on some of the online pros staying with each other in Vegas over the summer that the scale and extent of the problem is greater than people imagined.

There are some very well respected players and posters contributing to the below. They are long - but definately worth a look in my opinion. The attitude of some posters (who are large winners over big samples) which goes "I don't care so long as I'm profitable" is quite scary.

What do people think? Or do people not care?

pmsl... check out the second thread where Jimmy "gobboboy" Fricke makes a post and is slated only for his mother to post a few minutes later defending him and seeking an apology on his behalf!! classic stuff.

LL you just reminded me of something..... remember a few weeks ago I posted about collusion identified on stars and how the money was refunded etc etc.... i had another look at sharkscope there now and it's amazing the graph since it was stopped... he had about 3 weeks of disaster and now it's back to his winning ways.... didn't want to start a new thread..... the site was pokerstars so I reckon it's one of the safest out there..

At the satellite for the most recent GJP festival I was playing on the same table as a guy who I didnt know at the time. I have since seen pictures of him on GJP reviews etc and now know his name so I'm sure many of you know him. The table were talking about online poker and I recounted the story of how I believed my PC was hacked into and I had 30K plus stolen by one or more individuals. I almost fell off the chair when this guy as brazen as anything said that himself and a couple of other "top" irish internet players are in constant touch with each other using some sort of MSN type device where you talk rather than type (could be skype) and they inform each other of their hands.

the only reason I haven't said anything specific is because I was told a bunch of things in confidence and it's not my story to tell/I have all third hand information and no proof anyway. but take my word for it that it's a big [censored] problem.

okay, here's a tidbit: there are more *shared* accounts out there than multiaccounts by a factor of ten. this isn't ordinarily a problem (IMO - there are lots of legitimate ways to use a shared account, like 'one guy plays HSNL and his brother sticks to $10 SNG's'), except when there are a bunch of high stakes players all using the same name playing different styles. I had no clue that one fairly well known name could be a half dozen different people, all of whom know different things about my play. but okay, fine, I can live with that - this only really affects people that play each other regularly, and most of us are gonna be in the loop at this point/people are nice enough to AIM each other sometimes/when adanthar and nath share an account, everyone at the table know who is who within 3 hands. what makes this really fun is when a shared account is also multiaccounting, which apparently does also happen.

    Yes Nick,

I posted a thread on suspicions that I had about a couple of ridiculous calls and hands that were played out between myself and another individual late last year in 20/40 NL on the Prima network. I had stopped playing online cash for some months after these incidents before I posted on here as I believed that the game had been hacked. Anyway Devore on this site outlined a couple of possibilities and said that if there was anything untoward it was likely to be with my own PC rather than the poker site - I had an IT friend check over my PC and basically I had been hacked into through an e-mail I had opened or something like that. If you are at JP's game this weekend I will talk to you about it but basically my PC security was lacking to say the least.

I believe that Devore opened a fairly comprehensive thread on the issue shortly afterwards - April/May if you can find it.

none of this should be a surprise to anyone. Anywhere where there is an incentive to cheat there will be cheating, simple as. Just add poker onto the list along with just about every competetive activity known to man.
