Question - Mac Repairs in Dublin

Hi, hopefully someone might be able to tip me off on something.

My G4 Powerbook may well be for the scrapheap. It wouldn't come out of sleep mode this morning, so I shut down, then tried to restart. Unfortunately, instead of the chime, I got three little beeps, then nothing.

Googling suggests that this indicates a problem reading the RAM. I'm going to try uninstalling then reinstalling and hopefully that might do something. Otherwise, it might be that the logic board is gone.

Before I chuck it out, though, does anyone know of anywhere in Dublin that I might be able to take it to get someone to have a look at it and maybe fix it? I guess I could probably ring Apple, but I'd imagine it would be prohibitively expensive.

    Thanks in advance.

I havent dealt with them, as Im not Dublin based, but other posters on here seem to have positive feedback for these two companies.

Yeah it may just be the RAM. I've experienced similar problems due to the RAM being loose, either that or it's failed. If you have more than one chip installed try removing one of them at a time and see if it makes a difference.

yeah as prof says - try re-seating the ram in the machine.

Also try zapping the Pram - hold cmd+alt(opt)+p+r as you're booting...keep them held til you hear an additional 4 extra chimes.

though the fact you're not even getting the inital chime makes me think that its either RAM or logic board.

I have used Mactivate iN Dublin, very nice and helpful, I think they offerr a pickup service in Dublin as well. Alan was the guy I spoke to there.

Give the Mac Shop on Merrion Square.... They are uber excellent in there and are always happy to save a Mac from doom.....
