So, I might not actually have visited Loch Lomond but it seemed like a fitting title all the same.

    I'm back :D

I've got quite a few photos to go through, and just one to show you for now.

The highlight of the trip, for me, had to be the steam train journey on the Jacobite from Fort William to Mallaig, from the shadow of Ben Nevis to the sight of the western isles - seen here on the Glenfinnan Viaduct - yes, as seen in Harry Potter ;) The scenery was absolutely stunning and impossible to capture as it chugged by, but I caught a few acceptable shots.

Not having pure clear blue skies was a blessing in the end, as we were astounded by the gorgeous sight of the clouds hanging low over the mountain tops and the mist hanging in the trees.

Also visited Glen Affric (impossible to capture that place though), Culloden Moor, Glenmorangie distillery and Loch Ness & Urquhart Castle. Nice to be a tourist in my own land... will post more photos as I process them.

Welcome back :) Pub, drinks, yap.

Looking forward to more shots, and of course horribly jealous you got to go on the Hogwarts Express.

Thats quite a teaser you've posted there, hope you won't keep us waiting too long for the others.

I sympathize with you about trying to shoot from the train, I took a train (up) and bus (down) trip through the Pyrenees when I was in France recently and the keeper rate was abysmal.

Stunning Julie!!! Cant wait to see more.

And yeah, I had that train shot trouble too, travelling from Prague to Budapest in the middle of a snow storm Dr Zhivago style, ended up with about 4 shots :( Sniff!

    Love this picture.
Has some of my favourite things.
Steam train, impressive feat of engineering & beautiful scenery.
Wouldn't it be nice to have the luxury of travelling around, taking pictures. :(

Welcome back kid....right place this time!

Nice shot too, good job on getting rid of all the tourists!
Was over during the week flat hunting and took a trip to the botanics, i was well buggered when i got back and realised that a large percentage of the "nice ideas" i'd had for shots were subconciously stolen from your latest shots of the place....:o

it looks like you stepped outside the train for that shot. cool.

Next time though, im only paying for my own seat - as you quite clearly wanted to stand by the frickin door the entire trip. Im soooo very glad i didnt buy the 1st class tickets at e60 a pop.

.....and divorce due to 'far too much photography' ebbs nearer.

They should issue a warning on the boxes of DSLRs like they do on cigarettes:

"WARNING: CONTINUAL USE WILL BE HARMFUL TO YOUR MARRIAGE"

I need to go back and do all the cloning out and processing again, now I've noticed a horrid line along the horizon. Damn, I should start saving psd's :(

You know what's really scary? I had to use the kit lens a lot last week because I wanted to go wide angle
