    In a nutshell ,here's what happened. I.T. contractor guy took my laptop to load new software (Sage ACT!).
    Handed laptop back to me and now it will not switch on. Goes as far as HP screen then nothing.
    At the moment our own I.T. guy has it and is trying to recover the data from my hard drive but is not confident at the moment. He reckons that when the hard drive is sorted he will get the laptop going again.
    It will be a total pain in the @rse if he cannot recover the data as it is customer details and orders going back 3 years as well as personal stuff.
    Any ideas???

    Data can be recovered once its not corrupted. Sage should not cause this to happen, it has to be some configuration that was changed. Have you tried contacting sage about this?

    I'm sure you have recent backups...

    What did the "I.T. contractor guy" say?

    I'd be suprised if you never thought to back up your files in three years...I also find it very weird you didn't mention the point where you went straight to "IT contractor guy" and went "What the hell did you do to my laptop you incompetant moron?"
