Costs on stocking a craft shop???

    Hi,

I'm hoping that there may be be some craft shop owners reading this and that you might be able to advise me on some matters.

I am very interested in opening an up-market craft shop in the Munster region. I know my preferred location is feasible both in terms of lease affordability/availability . I have no doubts about the workability of the venture.

What I'm trying to establish are the approx costs of stock. I would be looking to lease a premises of about 500sq feet. My stock would be comprised of crafts (shocking!) ranging from ceramics, pottery, glassware, throws, cushions, scarves, lamps, candles, paintings, cards, to general gift ideas and so forth. I do not plan to stock knitwear in the general sense, ie, it's not going to be a sweater store but I would stock woolies like caps/scarves/waistcoats and designer items. In short, I envisage whatever knitwear I sell accentuating the image of the shop. This is as you can appreciate a very general menu of what I would stock. I am flexible. I plan to start small and develop the business over time.

Right now I really want to know some typical figures so I can do my maths and develop a business plan. Any advice would be readily appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How long is a piece of string !

I am not in the craft business ! :)
But I am in business, you need to start your costing..
Rates/rent/electricity/insurance etc, then fittings etc etc etc.
If you have this already done
then you need to Contact suppliers and decide the level of stock and do the maths from there..

If you need someone to give you a general idea then I must say you might be already dead in the water !
    Best of luck..
