I was working with a certain promotions company, a fairly huge one for the summer doing promotional work and I am still owed a couple of hundred euro which they have not given me yet. I have rang up before, and sent emails and they just say that it will be sorted out, but it never is and this has been going on since beginning of July. I need my money that I am owed and really will do anything to get it back. What are my options? Should I contact a solicitor?

The beginning of July isn't that long really, especially as you have left the company now. However as you need the money send them a letter/email you can be sure they've received giving a firm date as to when you want the money and how much it is, stating you'll be forced to seek advice if they do not play ball.

I hope it's not one of those promo companies slated on boards.

Expect to wait up a month for money for promotions done.
I've done a good few promos and its about that length of time with the company I work for.

Yeah but I have done all these promotions in June mainly...and they usually pay you every week. Which other promo companies have been slatet on boards? I couldn't find any when I searched

...but seriously, should I mention legal advice in my registered letter? I have emails in my sent items from beginning of July and they don't even acknowledge them even though I was on the phone to them as well and they told me to email them in.

You may be in a position to make a claim to a Rights Officer under the Payment of Wages Act. If you are a member of a trade union, an official of the union may represent you at the hearing.

It's only been 2-3 weeks. If you have left there may be other payments due you which have to be calculated (hols etc) and it may be that they only have monthly access to an accountant.

Or they could just be backstards......

They pay weekly. Always pay weekly. Since I have started work, there has always been a backlog of hours, like they calculate my hours wrong even though I tell them exactly what I did. They have a habit of trying to underpay people because most of their employees are young and possibly naive and not as organized with their hours as I am.

I am not in a trade union also Jo King so what would be my next move?

I think they mean music promotion company, not promotions like sampling etc.

Anyway, why don't you call into the office? Then they'd have to talk to you.

Whoa people, lets learn to walk before we learn to run!!

OP, did you have a contract with the company? What did it state were the payment arrangments?

If no contract existed, what was the actual payment arrangements? E.g. When would you be paid for work completed in week 1? Were you paid weekly or monthly?

    Were you paying PAYE?

If you can answer these questions we can give you a better response.

I never signed any contract with this company. The paying arrangments were that I would be paid weekly, every Thursday I think.

I was paying PAYE according to my payslip but when I started telling them they still owed me money, they stopped paying my PAYE and put the money that was meant to go into my PAYE into my wages as a deduction if you get me. Was this sly what they did?

What do you make of it now?

Thanks for the help by the way...
