    Hey guys,

How much spending money will I need for the 5 weeks in Greece do you know? I will be going to Naxos, Santorini and Lesvos pretty much. That's where i'll be spending a week or two at a time. Accomodation and transports/ferries/flights etc are all paid for so for all I really need money for is food and for watersports, how much spending money would I need? I intend eating in good quality cheap places and will also only be eating out for dinner, we will be going to a supermarket to buy food to store in our fridge where we stay for breakfast and lunch...

    Thanks guys :)

You could probably do it on about 2 grand.

2 grand for just food basically and the odd recreational activity? Would it not be less??? Accomodation and transport to and from the islands etc is all paid for already so all i need money for is for eating.

I dunno mate it depends on how much your going to be going out drinking and all that shizzle, when i went to Crete a few years ago for a week i spent €700 which wasn't too bad and me and the ex bird were out every nite in Taverna's and Bars, have to say Greek Taverna's are the best in the World for food IMO.

This has to be the most annoying question, that one can ask, about anywhere!

I suppose I can see your point...

But i thought when I said this:

...that it would be fairly easy to give an estimate of how much I would need.

But then again, maybe you just have down syndrome...

What an immature and horrible comment, catch a grip of yourself OP.

I spent a few months in Ios, Naxos, Paros, Santorini and then to Athens for a few months. Eating and drinking is relatively inexpensive. Amstel is the beer of choice and can be bought for next to nothing, most pubs/clubs have a buy one get one free policy. Supermarkets are cheap as cater for backpackers and greek salads etc will cost you next to nothing. If you take about 1500 bucks you will be fine. Watersports can be on the expensive side.

travelled the greek islands for two months last summer.. [islands: Crete, Santorini, Ios, Milos, Athens, Hios, Patmos, Izmir, Çeşme, Bodrum, Kos] spent roughly 5 days in each place, if you are thinking of spending a week or two in each place you are going to be bored stiff, alot of the islands are underdeveloped compared to other holiday resorts and do no have much to do or see, so you will be bored! at your first port of call i would suggest staying a week so you can relax but after that you should travel to a few islands every 4 days, its seems like alot of travelling but believe me you'll see loads and you wont be bored.

for our two months travelling we had about four grand for food / ferries between islands / accommodation / car hire / and all the usual expenses (this does not include flights) and it was way too much, think we came home with about 1 or 1.5 grand.. we did absolutely everything and had car hire for every single day..

Car Hire on average worked out at about 25/30euro per day - this halved with a friend makes it well worth including in your budget, driving across the island(s) is the best fun!

Accommodation worked out around 40 euro per room per night (for a double bedroom - 2people), dont bother booking anything, wait until you arrive by ferry to each island and you will be bombarded with offers of rooms for dirt cheap by owners of the hotels, they will take you to the hotel and also bring you back whenever you want for your next ferry - they are very persuasive so make sure you dont just look at one, study them all and ask for pictures of the rooms along with the best price..

Food/Daily & Other Expenses - you could bring anywhere between 20-40 euro per day, you'd get fed and have a great day on 20euro easily. we allocated 38 per day of our budget for this category and we ended up saving about 20euro most days, as your not going to have a hectic day everyday!

the best thing i would say to you is travel more as honestly you are going to be very bored staying that long on those islands! no matter how much you want to relax its just too long! you should travel to ios as it is a nice island, has a reputation as a big party island but really its not as bad as its reputation.. as usual when we got off the ferry we were surrounded by owners of hotels trying to grab us, we came across this guy offering a room at hotel katerina (which we had seen on the net before arriving), it is like a 4star hotel and we got it for only 30euro per room per night, it was the nicest place we stayed on our travels and is a far better standard than any package holiday hotel which you usually pay through the roof for.. check out their website and book early if you can to secure the best deal, they're very internet friendly so they will reply quick.. http://www.ioskaterina.com/ I would honestly go back to greece just for this hotel!
