A list from the Observer Part 1 and Part 2. Any thoughts on it?
Not sure the Big Lebowski should be above Dr Strangelove and I have always been dubious about Withnail and I but I'd go with Number 1. A few surprises in there and some great oldies.

Another stupid poll! Its summer alright.

Dumb and Dumber ? Planes Trains and Automobiles ? Its a Mad/World? Meet the Fockers??????? Uncle Buck?????????????????????

    Wot no Porkies?

Most of the rest have merit but I dunno how an of the above could sit in that list when His Girl Friday does'nt rate a mention

Actually as I look again there are way too many crappy 'modern' comedies which rely on a second-rate slapstick and crude innuendo aimed at teens.

    Mike.

Hmmm... Would in no way have put either of the 'Meet the...' films in there. It's one of the less annoying lists though.

The Observer reckons Meet the Fockers tops the original bcause of inspired casting? Surely even they don't believe that.
Don't think i'd have Hot Fuzz in there. Funny but not top 50.
I've always thought There's Something About Mary was overrated. Dumb And Dumber was much funnier.

I thought their Top Ten was fairly accurate but I'd have Lebowski higher. Anyway, all these lists are highly subjective. A bit daft really.

The inclusion of so many recent films is not at all surprising. There are quite a few I wouldn't put in, Dumb and Dumber being top of the list and Meeting ..... .

A lot of them are so formulaic and based on crude schoolboy humour they stick out in people's memories. But Porkys was the same in 1982.

Many of the classics from earlier times just don't get shown any more hence people have little or no memory of them.

    It's all Sky's fault
