After reading the thread about issues with Firefox I thought it might be interesting/helpful to have a thread about browser options! And see what everyone uses. No doubt Firefox, err I mean Internet Explorer (:D) will rank top of the list!! ;)

Pick your fav and tell us why its number one for you if you like! Might be helpful for people deciding what to use or considering a change. But please try and give a decent reason, and not just say "cos Camino is the best" (like I would hehe).

I just kept it to 10 options (including other) so if your choice is not listed post about it! I know I missed some popular choices but I can't remember how to add more than 10 poll options hehe! Oh and I didn't include separate options for Safari 3.0 for example. http://www.pure-mac.com/webb.html this is a handy reference.

ps: Poll is public and allows multiple choice.

    Camino
Firefox, no matter what my OS!

Only thing that bugs me is that a few of B.ie functions won't work with Firefox. eg Thread Tools etc.

I should prob mention it to someone like DeVore...

    Camino...cuz it's the best. :p

Seriously though I've tried every browser but have been happiest since switching to Camino. For a start it's written in Cocoa and is a true mac app as opposed to a port of a Windows app like Firefox. Don't get me wrong Firefox is a good port but it's still a port and I'd rather support a browser designed specifically for OSX.

Second, I find it (in my experience anyway) pretty damn stable, certainly more so than Safari which usually crashes several times a day. Camino has never crashed on me, it will sometimes grow a bit slow after a few days usage but a simple re-launch fixes that. The important thing is it never quits while I'm in the middle of reading something.

I know some people are married to Firefox's add-ons/plug-ins and could never live without them but personally I believe in keeping a web browser a web browser. Camino still has a bit to go but I hope they keep it small and efficient. It's much kinder on system resources than Firefox.

I regularly use 4 different browsers, not necessarily at the same time though!

I find that boards works best with Opera, in other browsers a lot of the buttons (like mark forumas read) don't work

I use Safari for general purpose browsing, and Firefox comes a close second.

Flock is fun with flickr and youtube.

Was a Firefox devotee for years before someone introduced me to Opera and i've not seen fit to change since.

Simple to use, clean look and enough features (in case i need them).

Sad Professor, a man after my own heart!! I love Camino for all the reasons you have listed! I love its Cocoa-ness, simplicity, reliabilty and stability. The look and feel is just right, keep it simple, they sure got that right!! I'm not a plugins fanatic so it suits me perfectly. I just want some reliable and stable. The development is progressing nicely, grown alot since the Chimera days.

I love its integration with the OS, even the latest release 1.5 making use of the built-in Mac OS X spell-checker on every text field. Unlike Firefox, this spell-checker is the same one used throughout Mac OS X. It feels more native than Safari, for me anyway.

Having said about keeping it simple I must admit I did "pimp my Camino" today, for the first time! I gave it a Leopard look and feel (Leopard icon set) to match my OS preview. I like it :)

I do use other browsers sometimes for specific tasks, but thats increasingly rare these days! Esp since I found a StumbleUpon widget for my bored times! That was one of my few reasons for loading up FF!

    Firefox
    Safari

I am new to mac since xmas, i hated safari when i first got my imac, so i started to use firefox. I liked it and i saw no reason to leave it. But then when the new safari came out a few weeks ago i started to use it and i love it. Ok, it does crash and that bugs me, and sometimes i still use firefox. But i reckon, well, i hope, that by xmas 2007, that safari will be amazing ( when leopard comes out)

If safari is not good by xmas i will try Camino. It's a wonder i have not tried it yet, seen as i swear by what the professors says at times. But i might try it some day, but i like safari now.

haha cool, i was just thinking of starting a thread on this topic the other day.

I use opera all the time. It has loads of nice little features like speed dial and ... em ... others I can't recall right now! It's fast and reliable, hasn't crashed since i've started using it. The only thing that bothers me about it is some websites won't work for whatever reason (that there's probably a solution to that i havent found yet). Blogmusik for example doesn't work in opera, so in that case I would use use safari. (version 2. something)

Strange that I use opera because I always used ffox on windows but never thought to get it on mac.

Also, no Camino for me! :p

I switch between Firefox, Camino and Flock in that order.

I have an issue with Camino's handling of form information but besides from that it's sweet out.

Camino seems to get my login information muddled up. It uses my gmail user/pass to try and log into my boards account and visa versa. It's really annoying and defeats the purpose of the browser saving your form information.

Yeah, the Firefox spell-checker drove me crazy. It was always switching to the British dictionary and then refusing to download the Irish one. Also Camino uses the OSX keychain for passwords. Firefox still hasn't implemented this.

Strange, I never have this problem. You might try looking in your OSX keychain and see if there's conflicting data or something. As I said above Camino doesn't actually remember the info itself, it uses the integrated OSX keychain instead which is more secure, so that's probably where the problem is.

My number 1 has to be Safari 3 but having used Camino for the past few days it's become a very close second and who knows it might even become my #1. The only thing holding it back is that sometimes it looses my toolbar settings.

Certainly rate it above FF which tends to hang on me from time to time.

I was waiting for your report on Camino. I said to myself 'well if ZENER gives it a glowing report i will try it out'. The fact you still put Safari 3 as your number 1 means i will not try it out.

I really love Safari 3 and i still reckon that in a few months time it will be fecking amazing, even though it is awesome right now. By Xmas i reckon safari 3 will be the main mac browser.

It is true what one person said, above, that firefox has got fat and bloated. Firefox has got stale. I reckon Firfox will up their game some day, which is why i will still use it as my number 2, even though ZENER says that Camino is better than firefox, (which i 100% believe,) i really do not feel like downloading a new Web browser cause i reckon two is enough to have.

    IE
    + 1 Camino.

I've had some disapointing experiences with Safari, detailed elsewhere one boards; though to be fair some of that may be the result of mysterious faulty hardware.

I use Camino because it both runs reliably (no crashes, erratic behaviour, opens quickly) and because it feels like it fits in with the rest of the Mac. This may seem like I'm perfering it largely because of its appearance, but as I'm learning a new OS it really does matter, and makes life easier.

That said, I wish it handled RSS feeds better. Whatever else about Safari, when you opened an RSS feed with it, Safari formated it well and made it readable. I'm using NewsFire Lite as an aggregator now and to be honest I'm not completely happy with the feel of it.

You should check out Google reader. It's online which might not suit you but I find it very handy since I can access it from anywhere. I just leave it open in a tab all the time. Works great imo.

I don't like the idea of google knowing which RSS feeds I've subscribed to and hanging onto the data for 18/24 months; otherwise I'd use an online service.

Is there any way of hosting something similar on my own webspace? No doubt it would be possible, but I've not come across it anywhere before. I guess its the hard ay of doing the same thing.

I use the G4-optimised version of Firefox. It's just as fast as any other browser and I can use every Firefox extension (that's why I don't like Camino, because there aren't that many extensions around). Extensions like Greasemonkey are really handy on sites like Flickr, I use a Greasemonkey script to add photos to multiple groups at once for example.

Firefox for the smartags, multiple search options and the dei.lico.us add-on. Also the latest FF looks very much like a dedicated Mac application. It works great with Quicksilver too.

I tried Safari recently but I'm not conviced. It looks a little strange. The only reason for switching seems to be taht it works well with Mail, for RSS feeds.

I also tried downloading Camino yesterday but the site was down for some reason so I am undecided on that browser. Does Camino have a Quicksilver plugin?

Right click on a search box on the likes IMDB. You will be asked to give it a name (I use IMDB) and a tag (I use IMDB).

After that you can type the tag "IMDB" and the search item "Al Pacino" into the address bar. Firefox will then take you directly to those PAcino search results on IMDB.
