There's a thread on it over in the GPS forum, the verdict seems to be it's good value (Navteq maps are a BIG plus for Ireland compared to Lidl's GPS which has teleatlas maps)

They reckon there will be only 3 or 4 per store so get there early!

What's the chances of getting one if I get to Aldi at about 8? No chance of me going there any earlier.

Last time I went for an early start at Aldi I arrived at 8:30am in Longford and there were about 20 people before me. I was looking to ger the Car Stereo last month. Turned out they had pleanty and I need not have queued, but I guess it depends how many they will have in stock.
I don't know about elsewhere, but in Longford that morning they had the Stereos & Portable DVD players at the tills. So if you do queue, head straight for the tills!

As a bargain hunter novice, is it genuinely necessary to be at the store before it opens?

I will be going to the Ennis store btw

According to a post on another thread, last time round there were only 3 or 4 of these units in each store. That's not to say it could be different this time round, but if you really want this unit then it would be best to be there good and early!

Seeing as I am getting 2 I think I had better be there just before it opens so!

    Thanks for the advice

I tried to buy 2 Car Stereos in Longford last month, but was told I could only buy 1.
But I had time enough to go out with the first one and queue at the till again to get second.

Bought one of these in Aldi 26/07/07 and i think its brilliant. Excellent in all respects and cannot fault it as yet. Have to be the early worm to catch a deal like this at Aldi. No point in turning up at 08:30am to find 30 in queue with only 17 satnavs on offer. Ticket handed to the first 17 customers to prevent multiple purchases....well done Aldi. I went at 7:00 brought a seat and a book and was chatting with others and the time flew by. Best 200 euro ever spent.:)
