Need some help here guys...my pc and laptop were connected wirelessly so that when I went to 'my network places' I could access files and folders on my pc from my laptop and vice versa.
I just got a new pc running vista home basic, and my laptop is running xp mce...so when I go to 'Network' on the pc, I can see both computers and have no problem accessing the laptop wirelessly, but when I try access the pc from the laptop, a dialog box asks me for a username and password.
I have no password set up on the pc, and I'm just wondering does anyone know how to let me access the pc without asking for a password?

Make sure both PC's are in the same workgroup [MSHOME unless you changed it]. This makes things easier.

Regarding the password, Vista requires peers connecting to it to provide a username and password on that machine. Entering your username and password should work. But you can disable this.

Open the Network and Sharing Centre [above] and disable 'Password protected sharing'.

Ok, thanks for that...I got around the password problem, and was able to access the pc earlier on, but now I'm getting an error message saying

"\\PCNAME is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied"

Any ideas? I remember this happening with the old pc, but it would sometimes fix itself...seemed to be fairly random whether I could access it or not...

Sounds like a firewall. Open Windows Firewall from the Control Panel. Have a look under Exceptions. Make sure all inbound traffic isn't blocked. You may have to add your network's range to a 'safe list', e.g. 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.254 [had to do this with Norton].
