FireFox crashing my MBP

Right folks. Looking for advice on this.

I'm having a fairly consistent complete computer freeze-up everytime i'm using firefox. Well actually it's everytime i close firefox. It's the big fancy screen goes dark from the top down and you get the 'you need to restart your computer'.
It's really odd considering I've had virtually had no crashes on my new Macbook Pro which i got 3 weeks ago.

Is there a known issue with the mac version of firefox that my searches have yet to uncover?

Firefox is very stable on my new MB 1.16GHz. Do you have the latest version? Have you added any add ons?

latest version (as of 2/3 days ago). Thought it would have stopped crashing what with the update, but it's still happening.
No 'add ons' I don't think (but i'm not really sure what you mean by 'add ons')

And it's certainly not a question of ram/cpu as i have the 2.4ghz/2GB Ram Santa Rosa MBP.

I'm not an expert, but I would clear the caches and if still no joy reinstall Firefox. But I would wait first to get some feed back from others here who are far more knowledgeable than I. Oh, Google toolbar is also a well know issue with macs, do you have it installed?

It's a kernel panic, kinda serious problem for Firefox to be causing. Have you had this problem with any other app?

Anyway for a start, I'd delete the Firefox prefs ("org.mozilla.firefox.plist", do a search for "Firefox plist"), and temporally remove the Firefox support folder from Library/Application Support/ in your user directory. Don't delete this folder yet as it contains your bookmarks.

Also delete the Firefox app and download a fresh copy. See if the problem re-occurs. If it does you need to check out (and perhaps temporarily remove) your Internet Plug-ins folder (in Library at the root of your hd, there's also another in your user's library folder).

I don't use Firefox anymore so I don't if this is an issue with a recent update or anything.

Camino Camino Camino!!! Gwan... you know you want to!!! :D

Ok, I'll be serious now! Lose FF and get Camino, uuhhh I mean... do exactly what the Professor says. Clear your FF plists and download a fresh copy of the app. I rarely use FF on my MBP, I have always found it very slow, and I don't like the application enough to be wasting time trying to use it at snail speeds.

Anyway, if you want to use FF follow what SP said in the above post, and see if you get any joy out of it. Having said that, repeated kernel panics are kinda worrying tbh. I would say you should verify/repair your disc permissions (utilities/disc utility), just a good habit to get into after repeated crashes, just to keep an eye on the 'overall picture'.

    Best of luck with it.

just deviating from the topic a little now, 440Hz is Camino compatible with foxmarks (a firefox app for syncronising bookmarks between computers) if not are there any plugins available for Camino to enable this?

i haven't had this problem with any other app (i think). I'm gonna reinstall it now and i'll get back to y'all later on it.

THanks very much for the speedy and extremely helpful advice.

Not really any plugins available, Camino isn't much of a plugins browser, well not yet anyway. Its more of a funtional, reliable browser. http://www.caminobrowser.org/ It isn't full of buggy plugins and basically allows you to browse securely and easily. There are scripts and plugins coming out recently for various things, I havent come across any for foxmarks, not available yet I would say.

http://mac360.com/index.php/mac360/comments/the_easiest_way_to_synchronize_mac_browser_bookmarks/ gets great feedback, might be worth checking out. http://pimpmycamino.com/ is also available for people who want to customize their mozilla browser a bit more!!

Mactard, you can use an online bookmarking site such as Blinklist instead of using the browser's bookmarks. Blinklist is ace.

I have a big problem with Camino and saved forms. Whenever I login to a website, I get prompted to save my login information for further usage but I find that Camino keeps getting the form information incorrect. For example it uses my gmail login information to login to boards and visa versa...fairly annoying.

Flock is my browser of choice now.

Urgh!! That would be very annoying! Never happened to me before I must say. Then again Ive never had any issues with camino, hence my over-enthusiasm :P

thank you for the info, it sure does look interesting, but unfortunately that isn't what I am looking for. See Foxmarks actually replaces Firefox's bookmarking and what it allows me to do is have multiple computers all having the same bookmarks, if I choose to. It's rather intelligent in that I have never lost any bookmarks using it, nor have any been overwritten... One of the main reasons I like it is because it will automatically sync my bookmarks when I start firefox. It's very handy considering I move between at least two computers all of the time.
