Wow, what a kick a** movie. Completely exceeded my expectations.
Shia La Bouef was brilliant as usual and Megan Fox was excellent, considering it was her first major acting role.
Whether it stayed true to the cartoon or not, no one can deny that Transformers is the best of the best.
Apart from perhaps Bumblebee, I don't think the Autobots were involved enough, but I'm willing to overlook that.
Aparently there's a sequel in the making. I'm not sure whether this will be a good or bad thing. Without Jazz and Megatron, I think there will be something missing, even if they do introduce more Autobots and Decepticons.
    What did others think?

Finally .. a 10+ year wait .. and this is what they come up with ......!!!!

THANK GOD THEY WAITED SO LONG ..I would hate to see what this would have looked like visually if it had been attempted with mid 90's CGI

The storyline is great .. the humanism of the bots is great, and everything seemed .. somehow .. very fimiliar, in a great way

The fluidity of the transformations was fantastic .. and damn starcream despite wanting to wring his neck ... much like the original, you really cant help envying him and the kickass plane he transforms into.

I am so gonna see this a few more times in the cinema ..... I am one happy bunny :D

Is this really out today? I see it's on all day in my local Multiplex, but I thought it wasn't released 'til Thursday? If it actually showing I just might have to pop along to a lunchtime showing. Can anyone confirm it's not just a website slip up??

    Is this really out today?

I believe they are calling it an advance preview.

Watch out for spoilers mate, not everyone has seen it yet! (I have I'd just hate to ruin it for someone else). Maybe you could tag 'em so everyone can join in?
It looks as though Megatron is gone for good, but don't forget Starscream got away, so he'll be back in force for number 2!

I have to say I really enjoyed the movie. I was worried that the comedy elements might ruin it but the actually made it better. it was kind of like Commando only with robots!

Bay says he "can't wait to start number two". I was never a fan of the guy but he did a very good job. I think thats about as good as a film about giant transforming robots could be.

    My only gripe:
That blonde hacker chick was a woeful actress

It was a brilliant movie, but I have two gripes.

    1.
Why did all the cube-made robots automatically become decepticons?
    2.
why did they destroy the cube at the end when megatron was beaten?

    Visually amazing film!!!

Cant wait to see it again, there was so much going on in the fights!

Have to say this was by far the best summer block buster for me, was not expecting it to be as good as it was - well done Mr Bay now get crackin on the second one :D

God-awful movie. Amazing special effects, but almost two hours of comedy and then a fight that was dragged out because of endless slow mo shots. Well done Bay, you've done it again. Terrible.

    Agreed.

Generic teenage love plot plus ROBOTS FROM MARS.

And the special effects were marred by Bay's patented ShakyCam® during action scenes. There might have been a lot going on, but damned if you could actually see it.

Woeful movie. Absolutely terrible. The transformers were completely lacking in character or personality. The effects were impressive, but detailed to the point of being distracting, always too busy or something.

Totally Disagree The autobots were very well done and had a real sense of fun about them. Its the first in a franchise and it done more then could have been asked by anyone to make the Good guys likeable without dragging every detail about them out ala xmen 1. Detailed to the point of distraction?I dont even know what you mean by that??Are you saying the effects were too good?

Great movie ,loved every min of it and peter cullens voice was amazing.I feel like i want to see more now !!!Cant wait to see it again.

Saw it last night at midnight on Leicester Square in London. Incredible fllm, absolutely loved it! Want to see it again.

One of two things left me slighty confused (though I had been drinking tequilla's before getting to the cinema
    • I thought the boy was supposed to ram the cube into Optimus Primes chest, but instead it looks like he rammed it into Megatrons?
    • The ending seemed rather abrupt. It must have been less than 2 minutes from middle of main fight to the credits rolling.
    • I didn't even notice Jazz getting bust up and apparently killed (or terminated.. or whatever happens dead robots)

Im not a fan of the Transformers at all - saw it the other night and was blown out of my tree, so I was. 11/10 if that's possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,969 ✭✭✭robby^5

    Awesome, plain awesome.

If you go into this film expecting anymore than robots kicking the **** out of each other, you've already missed the point.

One thing i hated was the lack of screen time the decepticons got :(

I only heard one line from starscream, which sounded cool none the less.

    Roll on Transformers 2!

Enjoyed it just as much as the first time which is very rare for me.

You see megatron ripping him to pieces on top of one of the building, looking over the street, he really rips him up, great scene, cant believe you missed it, one of the highlights for me

Great film, huge robots beating lumps out of each other, what more do you want from a transformers film? there was more human time than was necessary perhaps they could have shaved off 15mins or so of human time, and most of the 'leet hacker college girl' scenes seemed entirely pointless (aswell as being an awful actress), that strange guy from section 7 was also quite irritating, but these are minor and can be over looked when the robots start slugging it out.

Shia was amazing. I have been a huge fan since Even Stevens, he looks so different though.

    Top quality.

went yesterday, & enjoyed the robots, the humans spoiled it for me though, i'm not bothered about teenage love story or any of that sh*te, the fight sceens were kick a55, & I really liked the slo mo bits - it reminded me of bullet time, but bigger & better.

[*]I thought the boy was supposed to ram the cube into Optimus Primes chest, but instead it looks like he rammed it into Megatrons?
I thought it was cause he knew if he put the cube into Prime's chest it would kill him and destroy the cube, so he assumed that it would have the same effect on megatron??

quite enjoyed it i have to admit.. thought the action sequences were superb, and the transformers looked amazing.. some of it was genuinely funny..

the tone was a bit all over the place, it did seem to shift a bit from micheal bay action movie to steven spielberg kiddie movie a bit too easily, which would make you wonder who really was in charge (my bet is the bearded one)..
it was a pity megatron didnt arrive until 3/4s way through, even then when he arrived he felt underused..

shia labeouf was brilliant in it, he really carried the movie and sold the concept to the audience really well..

anyone tell me why john tuturro's character was in that movie for? totally pointless..

anyway, to sum up, very enjoyable movie, definitely recommended. half an hour too long but you'd get over it..

    roll on the sequels..

Just wondering after watching the movie a second time:
where the heck did Barricade go? One minute he's coming down the highway with the other 'cons, then we never see him again.

    Also,
Who said the Mountain Dew robot was evil? He was merely trying to give everyone free soda ;)

He was but had the sense to jam it into Megatrons and kill him rather than Optimus.

Yeah was abit close tot he end but the final fight is about 35 minutes long :D

Jazz says "you wanna piece of me" Megatron says "i will have 2" and rips him in half.

How did Frenzy die, i actually forget and i only seen it yesterday, they were blowing him away with shotguns then it doesnt cut back to them or did it(kinda cool matrix rip off in that scene music included).

Actually it was more of a nudge toward Bay's other movie Bad Boys 2, especially with the whole panning sequence

Great film, I enjoyed it from begining to end.

    Agreed.

Dreadful camera work ruined the action scenes. One big metal coloured blur - it actually got boring after a while.

Some of the comedy was alright but unfortunately that had nothing to do with anything. The story was a mess and made no sense.

If you want drama and subplots go to the IFI.

This is a popcorn munchfest blockbuster, and IMHO it has raised the bar by a considerable amount. Absolutely superb, renewed my faith that someone can still make a film with the wow factor.

Considering War Of The Worlds, King Kong etc. were let downs, Transformers was a class above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

To me Transformers is on a par with Commando and Showdown In Little Tokyo - big, exciting, fairly dumb and extremely cheesy but incredibly enjoyable!

He fired one of his spinning blades, it ricocheted off a wall and decapitated him as he yelled, "Oh ****". Of course thats not to say he is actually dead for sure.

Just back from seeing it, great fun, Autobots kicked ass

    Loved it :)
One of my favourite bits had to be Prime and Megatron flying straight through the skyscraper. Awesome.

And Prime making Bonecrusher's stay a short one with the uppercut and spike combo. Also awesome.

Prime's big Bay-esque speech / monologue that he sees potential in this young race and about freedom, etc.. = very cheesy :)

Cullen did a great job, as did Weaving (very menacing, never once thought of Elrond / Agent Smith / V, which was a good thing)

    I figure
Starcream, Skorponoks and Barricade are still alive - anyone else?

Also noticed that nod to a Bad Boys II scene.

'One shall stand, one shall fall' :D

Just back from it and was blown away. Amazing movie. Seriously,if you are expecting some sort of intricate plot lines I think you may have missed the point about the theme of the movie. It was visually stunning, acting was actually pretty good which is rare for an action blockbuster movie, especially one by Michael Bay and the comedy in it was actually really good. I feared it would be really cheesy but it actually added to the movie. Sam's parents were hilarious. Great fight scenes, stunning watching them transform. Great stuff. Will definatly be in my dvd collection when it comes out.

Shia Leboeuf (what a name!) was actually very good. Seems like he is the next big thing. There was a trailer for Disturbia before the movie and you could hear people in the cinema whispering, isn't that the guy in this movie? He has a lot of stuff coming out.

Some other faces I recognised as well. Some good cameos from Bernie Mac among others. Sucre from Prison Break was also in there.

It was a long enough movie but there was not one part of it where I felt bored or was waiting for something to happen. If I went to see it again there would be no point where I would say 'oh no this part coming up is slow or crap'.

    Great and exciting movie.

    10/10

There's a spoiler warning in the thread title, therefore if someone comes in here and sees a spoiler, it's their problem. Nearly everything will have to be tagged if there wasn't a warning in the title, that's why I put it there so people wouldn't have to go to the trouble of tagging everything.

The guy's a legend. Liked him in evens Stevens, when I saw him in Bobby, I thought he was brilliant and now after Transformers, he's in my top 5 actors list, up there with the likes of Jack Nicholson and Johnny Depp. I thought himself and Megan Fox worked well together on screen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

    theories for part 2:

    Mine are:

Starscream tricks the dinobots into fighting with Optimus Prime.

While those fidty cuts are going on he gets help from Soundwave to capture a large ship of sorts (aircraft carrier, tanker etc) and loads it with the constructicons and goes where Megatron was dropped into the ocean and retrieves him.

Turns out he tricked Soundwave cause he only wanted to remove the pieces of the all spark from him for his own uses and leaves the remains of Megatron and Soundwave to rot beneath the waves.

He then tries to get the last piece of the all spark from Optimus Prime by using the Construticons who can form Devestator thanks to the pieces of the all spark they possess. But thankfully Sam gets through the Dinobots heads that they should help the Autobots and they come to the rescue. Starscream escapes when devestator is defeated. But on his escape runs into Soundwave and the now revived Megatron (due to Starscream insisting all pieces of the All Spark was removed from his body) whom deals his punishment for starscreams betrayel.

How the new characters can be done:

The Dinobots could because of their low intelligence mistake Dinousaur exhibits as effective disguises so go around as Skeletons of Dinosaurs.

Soundwave, who has been an issue with the producers because of his morphing could take an element of Galvatron and be a artillary cannon (Howitzer) instead and can launch his cassette deceptacons (Ratchet etc) via the cannon in the form of shells. Could be a cool scene when they take the ship of him firing the guys over the ship and them sneaking on board and taking it quietly.

I was surprised that the military had such an affect on them aswell, that was a bit of crap all right. Thought the soundtrack was good enough.
Section 7 were a bit disappointing and it could have been done a lot better.
At the beginning it feels more like a mechwarrior film than a transformers one, that sorts itself out though.
scorpion guy, can't recall his name atm, whf was he at? He could have killed all teh humans in the desert so easily. Also, was not happy with the ending, I wanted the all spark to make megatron more powerful.
I am really happy with teh way starscream let the rockets hit megatron before
destroying the f16's and then flew off at the end into space. I ****in' love starscream
    :)

I was absolutely blown away by Transformers! Tbh, I wasn't expecting that much from it but spent a good portion of the movie like this.
The part where Ironhide is rolling about firing his cannons and then somersaults over some girl as she's screaming and probably ****ting herself was one of the best things I've ever seen in a cinema. My hairs were standing on end and I said out loud OOOMFG!!!

Was anyone else a tad dissapointed with the lack of screentime given to the Decepticons? they were only really there for the big fight at the end...

For the sequel, want Galvatron, want Dinobots, want Constructicons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,289 ✭✭✭gucci

i thought it was savage, but the fight scenes were slightly frenetic at times, i wasnt sure which was the transformers and which were the bad autobots, so im not sure how the army could define them either!! but the transformations were awesomely animated.
    optimus prime for an oscar.
the cheesy jokes and pathetic acting are all part and parcel of a explosion filled block buster like this, and for some reason add to it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭Iompair

Really poor film, it seemed like whole scenes were missing and Leboeuf 's awkward teenager in love with the hot chick got old after about 2 seconds. Section 7 head guy was just wierd, hot hacker chick seemed to be there to add another female to the story. The dad was ok.

Effects were well done, robot designs were very busy, too many little bits and pieces. But over all they were integrated well.

Not a complete waste of money for the ticket, but fairly close.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,110 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

Starscream will come back to revive them for some reason, maybe not megatron, as he let him get destroyed. :)
Pity Starscream was not give more time and the decepticons in general. Shoul have been a lot less humans. The transforming was really cool in this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,738 ✭✭✭Naos

Seen it two days and I enjoyed it.

There was one thing which annoyed me however, if anyone can care to explain...
When frenzy was just a head and touched the Allspark, he was repaired and his body grew back. However, when Bumblebee touched it, his voicebox never repaired. Why is this?

Saw it saturday, I've never seen the cartoons or anything (seriously) so i had absolutely no expectations at all...

I though it was a fantastic film, both funny and action packed and all that... The transformers were cool, as were their transformations...

The whole thing was just one big ride, with 2 very hot girls to distract me every now and then (the aussie & your man's girlfriend type one, mmm)

One thing that puzzled me (well more annoyed me) was where did the Aussie & her black hacker friend guy go at the end of the film? They just sort of disappeared...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,982 ✭✭✭Caliden

Got kind of annoyed by the action scenes as the transformers were too detailed so I didn't have a clue which part was an arm or a leg or what was grabbing what.
I prefered it when the camera was far back and I could at least see what was going on.

Other than that it was pretty good I have to say.
