    Hi,

I am buying a gift for my Dad for his birthday and have decided to buy us both (yeah i get to treat myself as well) green fees at a golf course which normally we would not play like the K Club, Mount Juliet, or European Club etc.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on which course to pick? Ideally on the east coast or south of the country.

    Thanks

Mount Juliet would be my pick, you can say you played the course all the top pros played in the AmEx. Its a magnificent track too, very fair.

Have a look at the 3 course pass for MJ, Faithlegg and Waterford Castle, it represents far better value than shelling out for just the one.

Edit: heres a link to it...http://www.waterfordcastle.com/golf/3-club-pass.asp

depends how good you both are. for me (and i have played them all many times, lucky me) the best is without doubt the European. Variety scenery, quality, difficulty but rewarding its the best. Links wins every time for me though. Kclub and mJ are very americian layouts, both very enjoyable and nicer clubhouses but you cant beat the european...even the thoughts of the tee shot at the 7th....wow.....gotta be playing well though....too many houses now on MJ for me and the K Club...whilst a big fav too is just another (very nice) course.

I got a freebie to Druids Glen last year and I loved it.

The European club is absolutely fabulously brilliant and all, but the K club had the ryder cup.

If you're going for something that you normally wouldnt play, I would make it the K club. That way you can say you played the Ryder cup course, which is something the European club will never be.

Yeah, can see your point about KClub ryder cup etc....but if you are talking about a real golfers course....its the European for me....and if I were a betting man I would not rule out the European for big tournaments in the future...just not the Ryder Cup...

If by real golf course you mean tough as hell then try the k club smurfit course which is every bit as hard as the european club, personally i hate the smurfit course though.

The Lack of space in the european club to fit the facilities/stands/etc required for a big tourny is why i would put money on there never being a big competition (such as the irish open) held there.

A little off topic but I could see Headfort New getting a big tournament, has all the infrastructure needed.

Sorry for continuing off topic, but dead right Andy, excellent course, playing open singles there on Saturday morning:D

As regards topic, haven't seen anybody mention the PGA, haven't played it but I believe it's up there with K CLub, MJ, Euro etc. Any opinions?

Hmmm, forgive me - but are the PGA and the European Club not one and the same?

The courses up at headfort look pretty amazing! That's a great deal on the open singles too... E25 for a round on the New. Normally more than double that on a Saturday. Trying to get a late entry. I'd say it will all be booked up though.
