I've just heard Sundays hurling matches in Croker might be cancelled and played the following Saturday in light of James Mc Garrys wife being killed yesterday. Kilkenny hurling are to release a statement this afternoon.

Yes, it has been cancelled. Think it's to be rescheduled for the following week. Official media statement will confirm this.

    This is the press-release:

The GAA has confirmed following consultation with members of the Management Committee and the C.C.C.C that this Sunday’s triple bill of All Ireland Hurling quarter finals in Croke Park has been postponed. The decision was taken at the request of the Kilkenny County Board and as a mark of respect to the late Vanessa Mc Garry (wife of current Kilkenny player James Mc Garry), who was tragically killed in a road traffic accident yesterday. Vanessa’s funeral will take place on Sunday, the original day of the game. The President of the GAA, Mr Nickey Brennan and Director General Liam Mulvihill have offered their sympathies, and those of the broader GAA community, to the Mc Garry and O Mahoney families on their tragic loss.

The full programme of games scheduled for Sunday will now take place in Croke Park on Saturday week, July 28th with the ESB All Ireland Minor Hurling Quarter final between Antrim and Kilkenny getting underway at 12.15pm, the Guinness All Ireland Hurling Quarter Final between Wexford and Tipperary taking place at 2pm and the Kilkenny/Galway semi-final at 4pm.

Very unfortunate that something like this had to happen. Hopefully James McGarry will still be able to play to his best, if he does even play. Fair play to them for being able to make that quick decision.

    RIP

When something like this happens its only right that matches should be postponed. Makes you realise that there are things more important than sport, and hurling is only a game.
Sincere condolences to James and both their families
    RIP
