Hey guys, anyone bought/ridden the new Honda Hornet? I'm buying my first (proper) bike, previous experience on a moped only. I'll have to buy a restricted version obviously and I'm considering the Hornet. I hear Honda Ireland are sold out of em at the moment, any reviews I've read in the magazines have been great but there's nothing like advice from the horses mouth. Any comments appreciated.

    Conor

Honda typically put out well built solid bikes. These days though, thats true of all the japanese manufacturers. There was a time when honda and yamaha put out the best built machines but nowadays suzuki, honda, kawasaki, yamaha .. they all have excellent japanese build and reliability.
The hornet is a nice bike. It gets good reviews but that said... i'm always very wary of british mags and their reviews. Dont think i have ever seen a bad triumph review. Also Suzuki tend to take out a LOT of advertisements.
The only equiv that i know of to car of the year is masterbike and AFAIK all bikes that won that were supersports! Moral of the story a cross compass test will often be that bit more reliable than some of the british rags we get over here!
    off topic...masterbike 07
07 R1 demolised the gsxr1000 to take best jap bike
07 triumph daytona was out and out best 600cc bike
MV agusta took best italian bike and all round best bike this year.
    sorry back on topic.
Other bikes you might want to try that I would recommend are the kawasaki Z750 (really stylish and great motor).
I spose best piece of advice I would give ... is that you can always keep trading up to your dream bike. I've done it numerous times nad bikes tend to hold their values a lot better than cars.
Were I you... i would put as much money as I can into really good safety gear and look after that gear once you get it.
Boots, Trousers (armored and weather proof), back protector (not inbuilt jacket type... a proper back protector from knox or other manufacturer), armored jacket (high quality ... with good stitching), gloves and helmet.
You would be surprised but that safety gear alone would set you back almost 2 k if you do it right.
    Best of luck
