Garmin nuvi250 opinions

I've been looking at options for an in-car satnav system over the summer.
I thought I'd have 350+ Euro to spend but I'm a bit cash starved at the
    moment.

The Nuvi 250 caught my eye. I appreciate it doesn't have text-to-speech
or Bluetooth handsfree features but the mapping appears to be top notch as well as the price point (270Euro locally).

When they say no text-to-speech does it mean it will say turn left/turn
right but just won't speak out the name of the road/junction ?
I've heard that the Garmin voices aren't as clear as the TomTom ones
and maybe I can forgo that feature just to get a very decent satnav
at a good price. Are there any other shortcomings I should bear in mind
before going for the 250 ?

hmm dont rly know the nuvi 250 but i used the 300 and 310. the text-to-speech is for reading out places names without it thou it will still do left 50 metres. straight for 150 metres etc. pretty handy as u dont have to check looking at the screen. the sounds is really good on the nuvis

maps are top notch. there should be 100% coverage for all of ireland now. i think tomtoms maps aren't as good for ireland has the garmin ones are so i'd go for garmin.

good site for garmins is www.mysatnav.ie

also i think with the 300+ models you get an sd card with them incase you want to change maps or something + for adding mp3 onto it

Well if your budget is around the €270 to €300 mark might I suggest you take a look at the Nuvi 350. it only €299 on Pixmania and it also has european maps prelaoded on to it too.

Like you, I was not sure which one to go for and I also looked at the 250, but when I came upon the 350 at that price I went for it. Ordered it yesterday so should have in on Monday.

I don't think any model in the garmin range comes with an sd card - you have to buy them seperately!

I aggree 100%, thats seriously good price for the 350, snap it up. I bought the 250 couple of months ago, the 350 at time was E120 dearer, if it was the same I'd have gone for the 350, has slightly better functionality but same maps. But, to be honest, the 250 is a good unit, doesn't speak place names but does speak directions...

If you're anywhere near a Harvey Normans, they seem to have reduced some Sat Navs by €60-80. I compared prices between pixmania, Halfords and bought a nuvi610 from Harfveys for €369. They had other Garmin models which were also significantly cheaper than the two options mentioned.
