i get a lower back pain when doing certain situps aswell but i read somewhere that the lower back muscles are included in the "core" so assumed it was just the muscles getting worked aswell........am i correct or should i be worried??

its just a very light dull pain and stops as soon as i stop doing reps

Sounds like both of you are not bracing your abs enough/ your form is going on the higher reps as you get tired. First thing you need to do is brace your stomach like your about to get punched in it and see if that helps. Also the pain in sit ups is more your using your hip flexors while not supportting your abs, goes back to the bracing thing
