    Hi all,

I had my first attempt at gig photography at a Wallis Bird gig - for those who dont know her - shes incredible!

I created a flickr set - so feel free to have a look at them and let me know what you think...

The gig was in Crawdaddy - were the lighting is quite bad - so those are a selection of my favourites.

I think you need a lens with a lower aperture.
While you've certainly got a good idea of what you want to capture, they're not very sharp images.
This light will almost always be bad at gigs.

Yea i know that...those photos were taken with a 70-200 f/4.0 L - and I can appreciate it will not be as good if it was a 2.8 for example. I was tempted to use the nifty 50 but just stuck to the one lens for this shoot.

wonderful captures for first attemps, a bit of sharpening in ps could improve them greatly

I think you did a great job for a first attempt esp as the light in Crawdaddy's is really crap! Re the lens, some of my favourite gig shots were taken in Crawdaddy's with an f/4. Obviously 2.8 would have been nice but... I don't make that much money hehe :)

Wow thanks for the comments...gig photography is a lot different to the photos i tend to take but it was an interesting challenge. In relation to Crawdaddy, i have been told if you can get photos out in the light there, then you can get it in most other places, as you cannot get much worse lighting!!!

hehe! the first time I shot in Crawdaddy I ended up with all B&W shots :(
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/click_click/tags/crawdaddys/) I like a few of them but yeah it would be one of my least favourite venues, for sound as well I might add!
