As I have only recently bought some AEGs and have yet to fully try them
out I am clueless when it comes to knowing what type or range and grouping
    people expect out of them.

Have seen videos on Utube where people are shooting groups of about
a foot and a half at only 30-40ft away. And they seemed happy with that.
That like only 12m and while OK for CQB It does not seem enough
    for outdoor skirmishes.

Do people care about getting tight groups
or is it enough to actually
just hit target regardless of where you hit the target.

I have nothing to compare whats good and whats bad.

What is an acceptable range for outdoors.
What is an acceptable grouping for outdoors at that range.

I fired the ol Kings Arms FN from my patio to the
end of my garden (less that 10m) everything went low and to the left.
The Hop Up did not seem to do anything at all.
On selective fire when I kept my aim point the consistancy was not there.
ie the BB's landed different places a lot, even though I stayed in the same position
    and there was no wind.

Oh, I don't know, I've seen people in action with 'real' guns for whom an 18" group at 12 meters would be something of an achievement. :D

I tried to get some idea as accuracy, groupings, ranges etc from fellow airsofters which you can see in the thread below:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055110372

....I think it was obvious though that the emphasis is more on firepower and rate of fire over accuracy. I would have assumed with so many snipers about that there would have been great interest in achieving excellent groupings and tuning up weapons in order to do so.

You know yourself anyway bullets, these airsoft guns havent the power to achieve excellent consistant groupings at a considerable distance, as well as that firing a round ball and being smoothbore doesnt help.
