Just booked some flights tonight and noticed after paying that they stung me for 16 euros travel insurance that I didn't want. Now I didn't tick any box for it but they stuck it on anyway, and I'm only bringing hand luggage, that was very sneaky, anyone else get stung? I want my monies back on it, but I suppose they won't refund. Thats not very nice. I wonder if I try and stop the transaction with credit card company would that work?

    Thanks

    Snake

I reckon you have no comeback with this one and trying to void a legitimate transaction through the CC company, especially over €16 is probably not a good idea.

Aer Lingus have followed the Ryanair route of automatically adding optional extras and putting not so obvious links to remove them.

On the page where you put in the number of checked bags and add your credit card details the insurance "opt-out" is located. You just didn't read the booking carefully enough. They also put in tick boxes for you to confirm that you have read and reviewed the booking before allowing it to be processed so you must have ticked these.

What you can do is check some luggage in anyway. If it gets lost or you et sick, make sure to claim all you are entitled to!

apart from the fact you'll have to pay 8 euros extra (or 5 if done online)for checking in the luggage

    Caveat emptor, as they say.

It's sad to see them go down this route, but not surprising.

You could try stop the trasnaction, but of course you'll lose your flight then also. That's if you can persuade the bank that fraud has taken place and not just you being careful, of course (which is what Aer Lingus will claim when they dispute the chargeback).

Actually good news getting a refund in the next 30 days, just rang the number and it was painless enough, although still think its sneaky what they are doing here.

It's sad to see a once good airline go down the same road as Ryanair, give me BMI anyday,, heads and shoulders above them.

There is a cooling off period when you buy insurance so as you have found out you can get a refund. Believe it or not , Ryanair even cough up on this one (made the same mistake myself and got a refund from them).

    Q. Can I change my mind after purchase of insurance?
    A. Yes. You can request a refund of your insurance within 14 days of receiving your policy schedule by emailing us on insurance@mondial-assistance.ie or call 0818 365 040. If you have commenced travel or have made a claim then we can recover all costs you have used for those services.

I just found out I got stung with their insurance also, I ticked the box to purchase travel insurance during booking flights a couple months ago, Then I had reason to ring about the policy as I was applying for a visa and I found out the insurance only covered the day I was flying out and not the week we were away. It cost about 16euro for both of us. From what I can see it does not give an option select period of cover

I hate how far Aer Lingus have sank in terms of trying to generate a fwe extra quid online. Their website is now an ordeal and a test of patience. It won't be long now before the plastic seats arrive and the annoying 'on time arrival' jingle starts up in the cabins.

I was booking a travellodge hotel and I got caught for 1.50 insurance.

They are all at it. The gas thing about the travelodge insurance was that you had to be a UK resident to claim.

I booked the hotel immediatly after booking a ryanair flight. I was so chuffed I did not get caught for anything extra I dropped the guard when it came to the hotel :D

How are they allowed to get away with it?
