Some news channels just in it for the money?

I'm just wondering if any 24 hour news channels have a main motive of making money.

It's kind of disturbing to think if there was a great tragedy somewhere such as an airplane crash and loss of life that a news station would be making money out of coverage of the event. Surely they should from time to time contribute money to charities which benefit relatives.

All news outlets are in it to make money, just like any business.

The station makes money out of the advertsing revenue, I doubt they company in question rushes out a new rate card if something really big/awful happens on the chance of higher viewership!

Alternatively, if a train crashes somewhere and the news station doesn't think anyone would want to hear about it, they might not bother reporting it.

Or if the train operator advertises with the paper, maybe they'll move the story to the back pages or leave it out altogether.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sky News did during the Madeleine saga. Even if they didn't during it, no doubt they were rubbing their hands with glee at the ratings and raised their rate afterwards!
