I've been in Glasgow on a number of occasions for a weekend. I know people over there, which helps. There are lots of tours around the area. If you are free to do so, go on one or just do your own thing. I've gone to Loch Lomond, Edinburgh and to New Lanarkshire, all of which are within a train journey of Glasgow. Flying there can be done by Ryanair to Glasgow Prestwick. It is in fact the best part of an hour from the city, but the station runs right from the airport into Glasgow Central. If you keep your airline ticket, you'll get a discount on the rail journey. Glasgow is not very big, but it is very hilly. I do recommend it. I'll be going again later this year.:)

Glasgow rocks, ive been there God must be over 100 times now (I'm a Celtic fan) i usually go down the Gallowgate drinking then to the game but on occasions ive gone around the city and there is lots to see and do.

http://www.glasgowguide.co.uk/images_italian_centre.html The Italian Centre is very cool indeed, designer shops and some nice cafe bars, also recommended is
    http://www.princessquare.co.uk/ which is pretty cool.

Anywhere up the West End of Glasgow is also pretty cool as well, but the main street in Glasgow is Sauchiehall Street where there are bars and restaurants a plenty, also shops and cafes, etc, etc.

Also St Georges Square on a nice day is cool to just chill out and relax, and id recommend a visit to Merchant City as well http://www.glasgowmerchantcity.net/ lots to see and do there, a cool space top hang out.

Glasgow as well by Dublin standards is very cheap for alcohol and food, etc, if you need any more info let me know.
